Ding Dong, The wicked west is dying. Good fucking riddance.

I guess Ding, Dong you and you're family don't live in the West, otherwise it wouldn't be good fuckin riddance.

I live in the USA, born and bred. And for my entire adult life (I am 70) I have detested the country of my birth for all the death and destruction it has wrought endlessly around the world since its inception. That is what I mean by good fucking riddance to the USA Empire. Are you suggesting you are fine with that continuing destruction to others at the hand of the USA?

No I'm not, not even as a kid when I saw those cowboys kill the Indians on their own land then claim their land as their own. Nor did I fully pledge the flag when they wanted me to say with liberty and justice for all, a lie. However as you realize people live in the West and I don't want to get them mixed in a pile of political hacks who care little for the good of this country. I would prefer change.

I hate to break it to you, but the people are mixed up in a pile of political hacks by voting for either brand of the corporate UniParty who only serve their oligarch owners and not the citizens. By voting for both parties one is endorsing the continued destruction of the USA. Right now the USA is outright enabling, supporting and committing GENOCIDE against the people of Gaza. And Biden who is a “democrat” lead that charge. Genocide is the absolute worst crime one can do to another. That is simply the latest crimes against humanity that the USA has wrought against the world going back centuries. If the USA will commit genocide against others, it will do the same to its own people eventually. Actually it was founded on genocide against the Native Americans and slavery. What goes around comes around. What one does unto another it does unto itself. Of course the USA is going to destroy itself and the people are going to suffer from that. Keep on believing all you wish for change. Change has been happening for decades and that change is for the worse. The USA is continuing its descent into some unimaginable dystopian horror show. Actually it’s rather easy to imagine. Just look to Gaza and what the USA is doing there. And now a majority of the voters have put a criminally insane conman back in power along with his billionaire oligarch buddies to continue the destruction of the country as they steal everything in sight. I’m sorry to say once again, the people have voted for this very thing over and over and over again. In some ways I suspect the citizens in the USA deserve to suffer the same horrors that they have inflicted upon other around the world by voting for the same parties of US Empire responsible for all that suffering and destruction. Maybe, just maybe if the majority of people in the USA experience that same suffering then change may eventually take place. I wish I could believe in change for the better, but it is not on the horizon by a long shot. It’s going to get far worse as the days go by now. One last thing, one thing we have in common is that during my school days, I was the only one in my class that refused to stand and recite the pledge of allegiance to the flag. May you keep on holding to whatever faith you have. I lost any faith that the USA will change for the better a long time ago.

I think you missed my point.. During Trump's previous presidency there was a concerted effort on the part of  the democrats, assisted by the  mainstream media,  as well as the so called left, and CIA, to delegitimize his presidency with all manner of lies.   Yeah the Russians helped vote him into office, and then there was Jan 6 they they called an insurrection, but it wasn't. Then it was all about all the women he grabbed, here, there, everywhere. On another note from the way they tell it I guess he must have been born with an erection that never went down because he seemed to be after every woman's ass. Lies, and more lies and the left was all to willing to help, as well as being complicit in Hilary's claim his supporters were  nothing more then a half basket of deplorables. Unfortunately those making these assertions found a great deal of support from those,  like that women who posted on Facebook, and are basically ignorant of politics. There were a few who maintained some sense of integrity like Glen Greenwald. When they did go after Trump they made it very personal which made it worse and I'm hoping I'm not subjected to that same crap. In other words I hope they set their scapegoat free, and can report on his agenda and him objectively.

Thank you to Chris Hedges.

In particular for making clear the distinction between corporate and oligarchic power, and the consequent changes which we are likely to see. Particularly appreciated are the observations regarding the shift from inverted to classical totalitarianism, and the insight regarding the careerist actions of those in the media and academia.

I read this week (remedially) America: The Farewell Tour and The Death of the Liberal Class.

Grateful for those, as with the rest of the Hedges corpus, for providing a perspective for (hopefully) navigating the times. Somewhat like having a map of Verdun, in 1916: an unfortunate place to find oneself, but it's nevertheless always better to know the lay of the land.

Don't think these attacks are meant to inform people other then to give people what they want to hear, true or not, and too often the so called left media are solely interested in putting money in their own pockets, which is their main goal, and Trump makes money big time for them.

Here we go, Common Dreams and this is the type of BS I expect once again. I hope not on substack!

Martin Luther King Jr. Would Be Protesting at Trump’s Inauguration

'He Is Who We Think He Is': Elon Musk Appears to Do Fascist Salutes at Post-Inauguration Celebration

"While concluding his remarks at a Washington, D.C. celebration rally following President Donald Trump's inauguration Monday, Tesla CEO and billionaire Elon Musk raised his right arm, with his palm facing down, in a gesture that appeared to resemble a salute associated with Nazi Germany. Musk can be seen making the gesture twice."

Hi Fran, I think that maybe your comment was meant to be in the thread of your first comment, rather than in this reply position to mine. But with respect to what you say, I think that our mass media, and the news overall have never been wholly "objectively" depicting the truth as best it could be determined. Propaganda and sensationalism has always colored it to some degree.

But there were at the same time some entities that were reliable sources of the greater part of what they covered (with competency, greater objectivity and honesty). Like pretty much like everything else under the ascendancy of neoliberalism, mass media has undergone a general degradation to the point that it offers very little of value. Even looking back at old clips of the three major network commercial newscasts from the 60s is stunning.

-(All things you already know.)

I opted out of watching television in 1976, and it is pretty continually discouraging to me when I happen to (inescapably) be somewhere with a television playing; the continual progression in the direction of hyperkinetic sensationalism and shallowness over the years. Jerry Mander and Bill McKibben had it right.

And in the past several years, the culture of the internet now seems to have caught up with television. But you can still access content of value if you search it out. We'll see what happens with accessing in the future, particularly in light of the possibilities of AI moderation and limiting access.

With respect to Musk, it will be interesting to see the various spins they come up with respect to that salute. I wonder though, if at a certain point the Trump camp will shunt Musk to the side. Watch the clip of Musk at the Tesla "roll out" in China, he is awkward, unskillfully reacting to the crowd, possibly a function of his organic brain condition/contiuum. He simply makes them look bad, and appearance is paramount, particularly with Trump.

.....

But with respect to appearance..."where's my Roy Cohn?". More to the point, "Where's my Albert Speer?".

Dancing with a sword to "YMCA"?? At least the Cathedral of Light at the Zeppelinfeld and the other Nurnberg rallies were genuinely impressive.

I only reference information on the net, and I know what sites, and what people are trustworthy During the Trump years with the so called liberals on board with the democrats in their Trump hate, and the distortions in truth they created I've learned to be more careful. I don't think it's unusual. and I think the popularity of sub-stack proves it.

I received this tidbit on Facebook, no surprise since the sender is not into politics, and basically

ignorant in that regard, but once again she has Trump to blame in regard to the many flaws of the US that were many decades in the making. What always pissed me off about the left when Trump was in office is that our so called liberal media which I use to rely on lost all credibility because they also jumped on the bandwagon and turned Trump into a scapegoat for all that is wrong with the US and simply blinded everyone to what preceded him. I will also give him a chance and see what he does. Seems MSNBC has also jumped on the bandwagon calling Trump an Oligarch which they claim will benefit him and his buddies only. Yes he is all that is wrong with America and he is the cause of it all. Oh, and don't forget to talk about AIPAC and the influence they have on our politics.

Here's her bullshit, "I will not "work together" to persecute Muslims." Like she forgot or was unaware of our many middle eastern wars pushed by a neocon agenda for Israel, wars that killed and displaced millions of Muslims. Seems the genocide in Gaza isn't anything for her to pay attention to either.

•I will not "work together" to privatize Medicare, cut Social Security and Medicaid.

•I will not "work together" to subvert the Constitution by illegitimately pushing unfit Cabinet nominees through on recess appointments without the advice and consent of the Senate.

•I will not "work together" to build a wall.

•I will not "work together" to persecute Muslims.

•I will not "work together" to shut out refugees from other countries.

•I will not "work together" to lower taxes on the 1% and increase taxes on the middle class and poor.

•I will not "work together" to help Trump use the Presidency to line his pockets and those of his family and cronies.

•I will not "work together" to weaken and demolish environmental protection.

•I will not "work together" to sell American lands, especially National Parks, to companies which then despoil those lands.

•I will not "work together" to enable the killing of whole species of animals just because they are predators, or inconvenient for a few, or because some people want to get their thrills killing them.

•I will not "work together" to remove civil rights from anyone.

•I will not "work together" to alienate countries that have been our allies for as long as I have been alive.

•I will not "work together" to slash funding for education.

•I will not "work together" to take basic assistance from people who are at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder.

•I will not "work together" to get rid of common sense regulations on guns.

•I will not "work together" to eliminate the minimum wage.

•I will not "work together" to support so-called "Right To Work" laws, or undermine, weaken or destroy Unions in any way.

•I will not "work together" to suppress scientific research, be it on climate change, fracking, or any other issue where a majority of scientists agree that Trump and his supporters are wrong on the facts.

•I will not "work together" to criminalize abortion or restrict health care for women.

•I will not "work together" to increase the number of nations that have nuclear weapons.

•I will not "work together" to put even more "big money" into politics.

•I will not "work together" to violate the Geneva Convention.

•I will not "work together" to give the Ku Klux Klan, the Nazi Party and white supremacists a seat at the table, or to normalize their hatred.

•I will not "work together" to deny health care to people who need it.

•I will not "work together" to deny medical coverage to people on the basis of a "pre-existing condition."

•I will not "work together" to increase voter suppression.

•I will not "work together" to normalize tyranny.

•I will not “work together” to eliminate or reduce ethical oversight at any level of government.

•I will not "work together" with anyone who is, or admires, tyrants and dictators.

•I will not support anyone that thinks it's OK to put a pipeline to transport oil on Sacred Ground for Native Americans. And, it would run under the Missouri River, which provides drinking water for millions of people. An accident waiting to happen.

•I will not "work together" to legitimize racism, sexism, and authoritarianism.

This is my line, and I am drawing it.

•I WILL stand for honesty, love, respect for all living beings, and for the beating heart that is the center of Life itself.

•I WILL use my voice and my hands, to reach out to the uninformed, and to anyone who will LISTEN:

That "winning", "being great again", "rich" or even "beautiful" is nothing... When others are sacrificed to glorify its existence.

I noticed she took great pains (about 10Xs the effort) to identify things she won't do as compared to those that she will. Typical.

You're right, she's such a phony. I bet if you challenged her, or asked her to speak in depth on any one of these issues she would be a blank. This kind of crap is posted, or messaged all over Facebook. A cousin extolled the virtues of Biden before his win in 2000 and maligned Trump and his base that came across as highly prejudicial, like they're ignorant, low lives. Four years of Biden, 600 thousand dead Ukrainians and abetting a genocide gets the silent treatment from her.

As they say I'll believe when I see it. I think he's a lot of bravado in that regard. This is not something at this point I'm concerned about. What I cannot stand are people like Rachel Maddow who recently went into a long diatribe, video clip and all, on how Musk gave the Nazi, or Roman salute to a crowd, like there was any question at all that it was no more then a big thankyou from his heart. However what is true of her is that she and others on MSNBC are willing to become their whores since the pay is terrific which is true for most of the media and I'm waiting to see if the left will jump on board with them as they did in the past. Now this is something to be very concerned about. Trump's son-in-law is loathsome beyond words, and yet he has Trump's ear. Now this is what bothers me, but you'll never hear a word about this on MSNBC or elsewhere is our media

"On his first day in office, Donald Trump lifted all sanctions previously placed on Israeli settlers in the West Bank, a political move that coincided with a series of violent attacks by Israeli settlers targeting Palestinians that same night."

Netanyahu voted into office in 2022 promised as much which tells you a whole lot about Israelis. Not to mention a rich American "heart" doctor can pay off a future president to implement the removal of the Palestinians, This is what bothers me.

This Yeshiva, infamous for hosting extremist rabbis who help organize violence against Palestinians, has been linked to incendiary rhetoric, including providing religious justification for the murder of Arab children.

we are going down the pan, herded by military morons, corporate ghouls, perverted police, demented technocrats, media succubi, medical profiteers, cowed academics and echo chamber economists; a puppet population in love with their right to be stupid, spellbound by magical thinking maniacs, presided over by a criminal cohort of power crazed zombie actors, where self worship, a complete lack of empathy or sympathy are the norm, a people inured to their own depravity. What could possibly go wrong?
