"The moral imperative of revolt."

I think the coming 2.5 years are going to determine if the Great Experiment is still the best design ever, or the people of the US have to accept being treated like the people of Singapore.

I would suggest if a politically astute Trumplican is elected, Singapore will be a worker's paradise compared to what happens in the US. Let's hope I am wrong.

A breath of fresh air amidst the mainstream media desert. Chris's work on RT--On Contact--was unsurpassed in its incisiveness and truth-telling. Along with Richard Wolff, Chris is a beacon of facts and counterculture. Cornel West, as always, is beyond category in his wisdom and experience and the ability to convey that to any audience. Looking forward to many more conversations.

About the "gangster" Putin. I'd like to point out that life expectancy in Russia which took a plunge after the dissolution of the USSR, resulting in a huge access death rate during the Yeltsin years when "Washington Consensus" economics was imposed by the Harvard Boys. Soon after Putin became head of state, via elections, the trend reversed and has been increasing ever since. By my reconning that means that Vladimir Putin has saved millions of lives. which makes him IMO the type of gangster who should be encouraged.

I don't see Putin as the murdering thug that the US military war machine is making him out to be. He is an Orthodox Christian, btw and I've always "secretly" thought he was true to his faith. I know he has to defend his country against the murderous NATO alliance and I think he will do so to the gratitude of the Russian people.

I agree with you. I think Prof. West still gets his news from MSM. It's really disappointing.

Just so you know, a "christian" gave the go-ahead to use the atomic bomb not once but twice.

Just so you know saying your a "christian" and actually being one is 2 different things. Hitler said he was a "christian", btw.

Putin upon his ascendancy to the presidency and endorsed by the corrupt Yeltsin had a major headwind, namely energy prices accelerated. It greatly assisted Russia in improving the citizens lifestyles.

Putin is an autocrat. He ignores the basic tenants of a constitutional republic. There is no judicial independence in Mother Russia.

What has transpired in Ukraine is absolutely horrific as what occurred in Chechnya and Syria.

Expand full comment

I agree it is horrific for the normal citizens of Ukraine. It didn't have to happen but US and UK couldn't keep their noses out and were warned by Russia many years before to leave Ukraine alone. This war was planned years before and is now taking place according to that plan.

Yes, the US has erred on Ukrainian policy towards Russia. This still doesn’t give Putin cause to invade a neighbor and cause wanton destruction, maiming, PTSD, refugees, tens of thousands dead.

I am equally critical of US wars in the ME, proxy wars in Latin America, etc.

Putin is protecting his country from a potential NATO invasion. I'm not saying the guy is a saint but he does have a country to protect. The Ukrainian war with Russia is another proxy war headed by NATO, i.e. the US and UK.

Your latest comment reminds me of destroying a village in order to save it.

Putin invading Ukraine is a slow bleed on Russia.

We agree about the proxy war and the US & NATO.

Putin is doing what he has to do to save the Russian people from the annihilation which the NATO countries want. I don't know if you have ever listened to Gonzalo Lira but I recommend it for a further perspective on just what is behind the scenes of this proxy war that the US is waging. He is worth listening to.

Not a slow bleed on Russia. Russia will emerge stronger than ever after adjusting and looking east to sell their energy. Europe however will suffer greatly from US/NATO insatiable hunger for world domination. Russia and China are done playing games. And we in the West will suffer for the Green and incompetence of our leadership

Thank you for this talk with Dr. West. I used to see Dr. West on Fox news but haven't seen him in the past couple of years. He is true blue and after reading your column on Consortium News I am thinking the same thing about you. In any case, I have agreed with you and will continue to read and listen to your podcasts, so far so good. Thank you.

Sorry but "true blue" is not something to be proud of. Just like "true red" is nothing to be proud of. Partisan politics is a poison and prevents truthful dialog. I view Prof West as not true blue but a true leftist.

Expand full comment

That's not what "true blue" means, It's nothing to do with the Democractic Party, or any party. It means being true to oneself, or to one's own stated principals. The expression is far older than the existance of political parties, It refers to the fact that there is no true blue color in nature; it is always manmade. So being true blue is to mean something rare or exceptional. I'm not trying to be mean trying to tell you this, but it was once a common expression that has kind of fallen out of use. It's related to the expresion "true colors" which is something that has naval/nautical origins but means showing truth,

@Alexander - No offense taken. Thank you for the lesson. I did not know this and assumed (wrongly so) that it was a partisan comment. My apologies.

Integrity. I just thought of it. That's what "true blue" means: has integrity.
