What a gift! Thank you so much, Chris, for posting this interview. "Our Class" has become one of my all-time favorite books. New Observations Magazine is just finishing up our issue on Wounded Knee and already has begun work on our issue on political prisoners which is being guested edited by leaders of the Jericho Movement. There is such greatness in the human spirit. Happy New Year!

This was really great in going beyond the interviews that look for short riffs on the book de jour and let us see the personal side of the man behind the ideas. The call from the former student was a very emotional slice of life that added greatly to the richness of the listener experience. <3

Chris,

Reiterating for posterity ALL THE REASONS I dearly cherish all your books and follow you everywhere I can. The interviewer asked some good questions and I did learn a few new things, so hurrah! However even tho I am a philosopher and a lover of metaphor , symbolism and moral conundrums and the choices we make in search of meaning, happiness and the whole matrix of the human condition, and a big fan of God et al, I cannot get thru Moby Dick, or Ulysses, for the everlovin’ life of me! Tried EACH 3 times even most recently! However all the Russians, YES! But my fav book of all time so far (not done by any means) is Catch-22. I’ve read it 3 x and not done yet. I know that says a lot about me but As bombardier Yossarian’s navigator always says when they miss the target by a mile “Oh well, what the hell!”. Keep on keepin’ on my friend, fellow traveler and teacher extraordinaire. We are counting on you and there just aren’t enough Howard Zinns, Kevin Zeeses and the like around. I’m foreseeing a transformative 2023, leading into 2024 with you in the literate and prophetic vanguard, as usual.

Try Animal Farm its an easy read. Jack London's Socialist Writings are great too.

Don't feel bad I have never read a book in my life. Mental issues, i.e., short term memory, ADHD but mostly lazy.
