Thank you Chris for such an honest and truthful account of the situation on the ground. It’s a moving testimonial to Shireen Abu Akhleh and all the other courageous journalists and decent human beings who have pushed to expose the inhuman treatment of Palestinians and the impotence of the world to address this abomination. Thank goodness for voices like yours.

Were Shireen Abu Akhleh murdered by a country that we do not like, we would hear howls of outrage from the usual political and MSM sources, we would be duly instructed whom specifically to blame, no investigation needed, all before her body ever even hit the ground.

I know how closely Shireen Abu Akleh's assassination hits home for you, Chris. I remember your grief at Jamal Khashoggi's murder and at the ongoing torture-persecution of Julian Assange whose marriage to Stella Moris you attended with a beautiful, tender message of congratulations and support. You know more than most the Imminent danger honest reporters face in this thickly mendacious vicious, topsy-turvy world. May your proud clan of courageous truth-tellers prevail and may you all feel our gratitude. .

We're on the wrong side of history in Ukraine too, Chris. As always, the US is on the wrong side of history. But the idiots who run the US think they own and control everything, including History.

one of the seminal findings from psychology is the karpman drama triangle. at each point there is a position: victim, persecutor, or rescuer. Because of the nature of the dynamic, any person on any point may change positions with any other. this is why rescuers often become persecutors and victims become rescuers and so on. the overarching point is that none of the positions is legitimate, none will result in resolution of the problem. the only way to win is not to play. that israel uses the persecution of the jews in WWII to maintain that no one may criticize them for their behavior is not a surprise. nor is it that they themselves have become the persecutor of others who they have now made victims. I find the whole thing deplorable. I hate state violence, no matter the state that carries it out. it never leads any place good.

Where is the voice of that "decent man" Joseph Biden? Calling for another white-washed investigation by the Israeli military is obscene and scandalous. But it is par for the course in Amerika, where we can't even protect "homeland" citizens from the murderous paramilitary, aka COPS. It is little wonder that the entire world, with some notable exceptions, is becoming absolutely authoritarian. If "big brother" Amerika can get away with anything, then why not everyone else? However, to quote Malcolm X, the "chickens will come home to roost", and when they do there will be nowhere to run and nowhere to hide!

I am aghast that our foreign policy is regulated by those in our country who remain loyal and supportive to Israel in spite of its genocidal policy towards Palestinians. Where have all those with integrity fled to? Have they all deserted Washington, finding it to be a viper pit? I turn for solace to Yeats, who wrote, during the First World War, these words, which could not be more apropos:

"Things fall apart; the center cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere

The ceremony of innocence is drowned:

The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity"

Will these words ever cease to apply?

The Israeli government is peopled by those obsessed in carrying out revenge killings. Whether anointed by rabis or out to decimate any who would thwart their fantasy of ultimate control due to their own control issues, they are a rabid force no different from the non thinking irrational

Nazis menace. The offspring of the Nazi victims , now are the sociopath as villains. Extraordinarily sad . And AIPAC’s actions in the USA to destroy all those who choose not to baptize the brutal Israeli treatment of Palistinians reveal either their sociopathy or their incapacity to see their own Nazilike attitude and obsession with impurity or otherness. Leading today to the annihilation of Palistinians. Wholly perverse, an anathema, and un creative - anti-life attitude. Wholly abhorrent and representing a regressive element of humanity frozen in attitude and wholly incapable of a creative response to Palistinians. Grudge keeping of the darkest order.

'antisemitic' I am not sure what that means as both Jews and Palestinians are semite. If you mean anti-Israeli, perhaps you are referring to the state of Israel's foreign policy, which is clearly colonizing Palestine. Mr. Hedges piece is neither 'one-sided.....left-biased' or 'pro-Palestine'. It is simply the truth.

Modern Jews are not semitic. They are mostly Eastern European and it is obvious from looking at them. Ironically, the Palestinians that are brutalized by the Jews are closer to Abraham's bloodline than modern Jews.

You label anyone simply disagreeing with you as anti-semitic. Obviously, you're the one with self-control issues.

That statement is false. When a piece is clearly biased to paint Israel as evil and dirty and the Palestinians as benevolent victims, then the author clearly is in that space of antisemitism. Israel like all governments are worthy of criticism.

The craving to virtue signal political correctness is a sickness. Today it more often includes all the traces of antisemitism that keeps rearing it's ugly head.

My comment to you was in response to your response to Tim N's simple questioning of your accusation of the article being "left-biased" and his invitation to you of making good on your desire to drop your subscription and find a news source more to your liking.

You answered that sane and fair comment with a smear of him being anti-Semitic. You then go on to lecture me in the most elitists of ways, using word-triggers so popular with the far right like virtue signal and that old chestnut for conservative whiners, political correctness. I'm shocked that you didn't work in some variation of the woke meme, which has become the knee-jerk label for all things hated by the right.

Please explain how Tim N's comment was in the slightest way anti-Semitic and how my statement was false. And then, my all means, make good on your threat to drop your subscription.

P.S. There are probably as many on the left, especially politicians and members of the legacy media, who are blindly pro-Israel, no matter its policies or how they carry them out, so you are a little confused about your "left-bias" charge.

Expand full comment

Yes, it is woke too. Part of the the critical theory toxic mind virus. The victim mentality rock, paper scissors game. Have to be one of the cool kids at the party... and supporting Palestinians despite their general commitment to terrorism... that is the cool side to be on.

I think that because the liberal animal tends to be connected to a life of privilege, there is that white guilt and a corresponding corrective need to show solidarity in support for the side with a victim identity. Israel is successful... major contributor to so many positive things that have improved the human condition around the world... including being many scientific advances and a place for the frequently persecuted Jewish cohort to live in peace. But, even though the Palestinians are backward Medieval practitioners of death and destruction, they become the liberal political correctness target to complete the liberal virtue signaling circuit.

Just thinking... what if we could just say poof... no more Israel... all the people of that county just vanished... or otherwise went back to where they could be individually persecuted again... and the Palestinian people get to take over that land. Now we have to remove all the Israeli development of the land because that would not be rational or fair... because the Palestinians did not accomplish those things. So it is just the bare land.

What do you think things would like like 10-20-30 years from now?

I am sure that the Palestinians would be just as miserable... probably more so.

The misery of the Palestinians is internally-caused. Israel is just a proxy culprit to deflect from their corrupt, ineffective & weak leaders. We can see the same tactic today with American liberals. Blaming working class citizens and corporations to mask liberal's mounting evidence of corrupt, ineffective and weak leadership.
