Universities were destroyed on purpose. Look what happened in society in the 1960s and 1970s when they were well funded, mostly autonomous and nearly tuition free. Education is greatest threat to autocracy. Well educated youth have the power to wreck it all for kleptocrats.

The conspiracy, Chris, is 10 administrators for every real teacher, and posh dorms, facilities, and amenities that did not exist on university campuses 30 years ago. Since the government was willing to loan whatever universities charged, there were no market forces to halt these trends.

Not only posh dorms, but older apartment buildings and rental houses torn down to make way for new apartments. Furnished and utilities provided, these 3-4 bedroom apartments are running $450-$600 a bedroom. This is in a low COL city.

I live near a state university and have watched many of these built. Cracker box construction; lots of particleboard cabinetry. Many torn down apartments had wood cabinets. They were bulldozed with everything else. Didn’t even take them to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.

They replaced solid construction with crap.

The assumption here is college is a necessity to get ahead in life. Our entire high school experience is geared towards college. Whatever happened to auto repair? Trade school? Apprenticeships? Welding? We have a society that LOOKS DOWN on those that do not have a degree but these same folks keep our economy running.

Elizabeth, thank you! I couldn’t say it better.

Yeah, but The People Who Matter can just send their offspring to private school, so why should they care?

And what Important People want, Important People get.

All because Ralph Nader and similar folks tried to get a better America. Private equity firms, ownership of homes by investors should be outlawed - the rich only consider their right to profit by whatever means okay. dumb enough to die for the country that considers you extra baggage is the goal of today's enslavers. biden bombed the pipeline and should be sent to a Russian zoo where people of the world can throw feces at him imo.

"ownership of homes by investors should be outlawed"--leonard kellum

I don't believe I have ever read a more ignorant statement. Virtually anything of a material nature can be an investment (BTW, not all investments are profitable path toward riches, pal). Should all vehicles be outlawed from purchase? How about coins...or stamps? Maybe cabbage patch dolls, too ( after all, folks got rich off those at one point in history). I'd counter that the only direction poo should be thrown--is back at you.

Cheers!

the homeless are no concern of yours, or nuclear weapons, but your investments are important? eat your dollars and wash it down with oil.

Chris - My friend and colleague Charles Avila, author of Ownership: Early Christian Teachings, will be in New York this month. I would very much like you to meet him and he would like to connect with you. Can we arrange for a meeting? 717-357-7617

Alanna, I don't get into NYC a lot these days, but I will look at the book. Thanks.

Chris - Then perhaps Charles Avila could travel to where you are if that is not too far from New York? He and I are working closely together towards implementation of the perennial wisdom teachings concerning land and money of Jubilee Justice as brought forward in his book on Ownership: Early Christian Teachings and in the work and writings of political-economist Henry George At the very least, how about a phone call while he is here? (he lives in the Philippines) The "way forward" is a deeply rooted approach to social problems of poverty, homelessness, gross wealth inequality and war, by articulating fundamental principles and policies of ownership. The radical yet practical public finance solutions are practical ways to have a non-violent revolution. BTW I heard you speak in Gettysburg at the Lutheran Theological School and also processed through Anacostia Jail with you along with Daniel and a few busloads of others one cold winter day after protesting at the White House. My Radical Middle Award winning book is titled The Earth Belongs to Everyone. I am a two time Congressional candidate and friends with Dennis Kucinich. Please call me at 717-357-7617.

Really? You get into NYC enough to recently publish on this blog site a "talk" you gave on a Rally Calling for the Immediate Release of Julian Assange on World Press Freedom Day.Wed, May 3, 2023. Can't you just simply say you will take a look at the book, period? I see no reason to obfuscate the issue. We get enough of that from the people you regularly critique and write about.
