Andrew Bacevich is nothing, if not reasonable, but his deference to the official American perspective when the subject of the War in Ukraine arose was surprising. To call Russia’s invasion of Ukraine “...an act of criminal aggression...” one needs to take an ahistorical view, and Bacevich is never ahistorical in his writing or speaking. Maybe he was overcompensating. The name Bacevich could be Russian, and so, maybe he was concerned about being accused of soft punching his cousins.
Apart from that, his contribution to the discourse on America never disappoints.
The "all-volunteer force" will, on the flip of a switch, turn into a conscription force comprised of a desperately poor population with nothing left to lose, except their lives.
