As much as I have admiration for Noam Chomsky's work this interview (like most interviews I've heard with him in the last several years) has left me seriously disappointed. His vitriol towards the Republican party stands in stark contrast to his mild critiques of the Democrats which is a viewpoint that seems increasingly anachronistic and out of touch to me.
This was most evident in his tirade against the Republicans with regards to climate change. Sure, the Republican party is probably worse on climate change than the Democrats but the fact of the matter is they are both so insanely, suicidally far from what it would take to meaningfully address climate change that any contrast between them is effectively meaningless. The same thought pattern reared its head when Chris asked about the Ukrain war. The Democrats (including Bernie Sanders), who control all branches of government, are currently embroiling our country in a nakedly corrupt proxy war that has a real possibility of ending in a nuclear holocaust. Does that not deserve at least as strong of condemnation as the Republican party's policies?
A thought experiment... If your are faced with two strangers, one of whom promises to stab your child 4000 times and another who promises to stab your child 3999 times, how much time would you expend bemoaning the former rather than decrying both options as unacceptable?
