Chris, you said everything that was necessary to put ourselves in that "learning" situation that we felt was so important for our progress. Your teacher was inspirational and demanding, two elements that are necessary when learning another language. I spent 3 yrs learning Thai, and eventually opted out as my teacher, whilst a good person, lacked the ability to inspire me or demand outcomes. I envy you for having such a person teach you a most difficult language.

My kind of woman! I too am of Eastern heritage and in spite of living in Britain for forty plus years find it difficult to cope with the tight arsed British reserve and politeness. As to you Chris, you may be unpolished, but a diamond no less. A great big sparkling diamond that lights up the world with your moral clarity expressed in language that reads like poetry. Love you. Happy birthday Ruba.

The subject of what we are and what we do (as human beings), and of maintaining hope in the face of what we see has been raised, particularly in the context of Gaza.

In both the Gabor Mate interview and the recent Q&A on Gaza, Chris Hedges describes "the Miracle of Kindness": witnessing a human act of kindness, of love, can have a profoundly healing effect on our spirit, when seen in a context of encompassing darkness - particularly then, in fact.

Something like that was felt while watching this.

Thank you, Chris Hedges.

Sometimes even seemingly small things can in fact be very big things.
