I have understood for a long time (I live in France) that anyone who tried to negotiate a 'peace' between Ukraine/Russia would be held back by the US. As you rightly say this is big bucks for the military complex headed by the USA.
I am disgusted by Europe's participation in this and yes the UN needs to be abolished.

Germany was 'badgered' into supplying Leopard tanks. I know they tried to not do this but the US is far away and Germany is not. I wish they had said no.
To be fair, I don't think Germany resisted much. Even now German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius was saying that he would be blunt and acknowledge that people want things like schools, kindergartens, healthcare and the like but that is not possible now as all that money has to be sent to the Ukraine instead as part of the effort to uphold Muh international Rules-Based Order.

Hell, look at the attack on Nordstream. When Sy Hersch finally confirmed what we all knew, what did Scholz do? Did he demand an explanation? No, he scampered to his American master to coordinate a response.
Now that the story has changed to "Ukraine did it!", Germany continues to lavish arms and cash on a country that is claimed to have committed an act of war on it. For that matter, it's not as if Germany is in any hurry to investigate. Probably because they know that they won't like the answers.
And then there's the Europe-wide crackdown on free speech with regard tot he war. American didn't make the Europeans do that. They did it on their own.
So the idea that Europe is being forced into this war against their will is a bit much.

The real enemy to peace as Chris points out quite pointedly is the arms industry and war is it's bankroll. It all just kind of fell into place with WW1&2 and the industry it created. Once these wars were over these same industries had enough persuasive ability to keep the war machine going. Forget the swords to plowshares idea. Targeting the global South primarily has been a convenience for also in arrangement of entrapment like trade deals. Basically selling weapons to both sides. The curtain pulled the wizard has been exposed all the world's countries know the game now.
The question that remains is just how will the worlds leading military and friends adjust to this without killing most of us?
Mother Nature may have the last say. Those who warned against the military/industrial/political complex were ignored and we're now witnessing the results. Check any place on the planet and see that those who warned about climate change were also right......and ignored. Even if people start paying attention it may be too late.
