Nicely put. However, I would add that over-population and diminishing resource base, is driving a unified effort by plutocrats and oligarchy to create divisions worldwide, and 'normalize' totalitarianism as the solution to the narrowing of resources caused by global warming--which by some twisted magical thinking they believe they will somehow avoid. This isn't going to end well for anyone.

The eloquence combined with clarity here is blinding.

But what’s so ‘through the looking glass’ is attempting to share this with folks who consider themselves sophisticated and political-minded and being rebuffed—dialogue shut down—and told that CH is a Russian asset.

Another incisive essay by Chris Hedges.

Hedges assumption that Russia's military goal was to capture Kiev and completely roll over Ukraine, however, is most likely a false assumption. It appears that Russian military that went in light and restrained is achieving its limited goals in Ukraine.

Hedges characterizing Russia as a decling imperial empire is also questionable.
