Besides propping up the armament and the US domestic oil and gas industry, this proxy war is about US dollar or Eurodollar hegemony. Putin has for some time been advocating an end to the Eurodollar system. Xi too as well as other Chinese leaders not aligned with Xi have proposed a system of credit and trade that is much less based upon the Eurodollar.

It is clearly a maxim amongst our socio-economic elites and the political kleptocrats that do their bidding that any threat to US empire is met with an invasion or a proxy war of indigenous fighters against those that seek to "liberate" themselves from the Eurodollar hegemony or US dominance in other forms.

Assuming that the US, NATO and W. European countries and Putin with the puppet Zelensky in the room can arrive at a conclusion of hostilities due to the attrition of war, Ukraine will remain divided and the status quo of NATO at Putin's border will also remain. But the most critical element of why the US entered into the war, Eurodollar hegemony will remain in tact.

Xi and China will have learned the lesson and I seriously doubt they try to "liberate" Taiwan any time soon.
