Chris, this is an incredible speech. Can we get a transcript, or Is it a chapter of your book? Thank you for your consistent, painful, unflinching commitment to sharing the ugly truth of war.

This is the first time I met Chris up close and personal, and my impression of him was everything that I expected of such a great and humble man. His honesty is without question, and he's personable. He practices what he preaches.

There was a young child in the audience as you can hear who was becoming fussy, he never broke stride or lost his patience and kept on speaking.

In the matters of his discussion, he laid out the arguments and was correct. Concerning in the least.

Now back to his book.

Thank you. I listened twice. I have been thinking a lot about local matters here in Wisconsin and I realized how municipal and county police budgets and efforts are reflections of our national defense budget and efforts. We spend the greatest amount of resources on lethal weapons and the greatest efforts on punishment. As well as the national military industries, there are many people (un self-consciously) employed in the state and local industries of punishing and caging people. Absurd. All of it absurd. Love, compassion and mercy are better. But a minority (of self-important sociopaths) always set the pace. And so many of them dream of their wisdom and relevance. We are at their mercy.

What an incredible speech, Chris Hedges. I am sitting at my computer and am so glad I didn't go to bed yet. And I don't know if I can sleep after listening to your truthful and unflinching presentation. I especially like that you have named many of U.S.' elites who are pushing and have pushed us into war. The minute I heard the person who was supposed to be the head of our diplomacy - Blinken's first meetings with Lavarov and the Chinese Ambassador, talking to them like they are bad children who need to be schooled, I knew we were in terrible trouble. Thank you for your deep feelings and admissions of waking up at night in panic. You have helped me see so much about U.S. hegemonic wars and yet, you are still working for peace. Excuse the ramble and thank you. I work with MD Peace Action and Baltimore Peace Action.

Ron Suskind had it right 18 years ago when he exposed Karl Rove’s comment in the ‘Times’ on Oct. 17, 2004 with the revelation that:

“We’re an Empire now” — and we can now see that it’s “The Quiet American” EMPIRE — apologies to Graham Green.

BTW, the Vietnam War was quite a bit longer because it was started one week after the surrender of the Japanese Empire — when the British Empire’s Major General, Douglass Gracey, order the Japanese surrendered troops to be re-armed with only side-arms to suppress Ho’s Vietminh Revolution — which the British Empire, the French Empire, and the OSS Pacific portion of the rising “Quiet American Empire” in 1944 had started to enhance under the manipulated Harry un-Truman, had been placed through the “Quiet Coup” that had been made possible by physically blocking the DNC convention’s first vote overwhelming delegate choice of FDR’s brilliant and socialist VP, Henry Wallace, to become the President in April of 1945 on the certainly projected death of FDR.

This fractured rip in time, IMHO, changed and blocked Einstein’s recommendation of democratic Socialism being the form of government that Churchill could never imagine in his infamous quote — because Churchill wanted and guarded the British EMPIRE..

Chris, this is the second time I’ve seen you address the Sanctuary for Independent Media on video. The last one was when you spoke on those incarcerated in NJ. I was so impressed with the previous talk (plus I’ve been a fan for a while), I bought a ticket to see you live this time. I was too sick to make the 4 hour drive from Rochester plus I didn’t want to be contagious, so I listened live via radio stream. I still had to see it, so I watched the recording also.

This takes so much out of you, I can see that. Let me tell you, your effort is not wasted on me! And oh! I read the book this time in advance! Thanks for making it digitally available! With TBI from a car accident, It helps a lot.

I expect it from the superficial politicians and grotesque profiteers - but the mainstream media in all corners constantly programming us in the pro-war propaganda is indefensible.

You give me hope with your painful truth. I will fight the evil and senseless embrace of war that so many in our society tells us is a noble cause...I choose love over evil, and I hope this can in any way give you some peace.
