Happy Thursday Sir,

Wow, so they finally let you back on mainstream media again.

Isn't this where you said "if we had a functioning public broadcasting system would be on probably late at night?"

You sir are destined to make C-SPAN a functioning public broadcasting system again.

LOL

Hopefully they'll keep you coming back for more insights since you write a lot.

Seriously though, kudos to you sir and congrats on returning to the airwaves where you belong.

Happy New Year!

Not sure I’d call CSPAN MSM but it beats a blank and a lifetime of full blackballing.

On a Friday in August (2021?), John McArdle, one of C-Span's Washington Journal Hosts, said, in response to a caller, "Be careful what you say. Or C-span will turn your name and number over to the authorities."

While many people do not consider it part of legacy media, C-Span colluded with the government just like the MSM, to propagandize Americans in to getting the chemical injections misnomered as "vaccine". Washington Journal subjected its audience to a day-after-day-after-day barrage of "experts" saying how "safe and effective" [effective at making Big Pharma filthy rich] the vaccine was. No dissenting voices were allowed to appear on the show.

I hear you but I have close friends are antivaxers with dire consequences...so being a nurse and a skeptical one big time I just go into MEGO ( my eyes glaze over) when stuff comes out like just now. Give it up. You’ll be happier. ME THINKS ALL THE ANTI VAXERS PROTEST TOOOOOOO MUCH

I don't want to be incarcerated - but I sure would love to take a class from Chris Hedges! I always learn something when I read and listen to him. How can we get more college programs into prisons? Out of 100 plus of your students finishing their BA with a recidivism rate of 1% is astonishing evidence of the values of education for the inmates and the citizenry. What are the groups/entities who are the biggest obstacles to a major infusion of literacy, GED, and college programs in prison? And who/what are the toughest entities against opening up job and housing opportunities for ex convicts? Wherever the Whole Foods is that Kabir was fired from ought to be targeted by substantial customer protest. He proved himself and then because of the cold inflexible mentality of the store manager he got fired because his prison record showed up in a report and apparently the "un" wholeness of (un)Whole Foods has a rule against ex prisoners working for them. That's gotta change.

The exact same thing happened to my granddaughter, thru a job she loved. She was honest about her addiction troubles but the police report contained a completely untrue charge, which could not be expunged, and this threw her into big depression and you can guess what happened next. However, after a really close call, she with her three kids and husband are living with me now and tho we struggle working things out we eventually do, and the insanity and crazy making of the addiction life are gone for now and we rely in each other and God to see that it will be long gone for good. Healthy Human connection is all there is.

Selina,

The Fortune Society sponsors a tv show [correction] "Both Sides of the Bars" available on youtube. Following is a description of a Feb., 2022 episode:

Host Andre Ward and guest Jeffrey Abramowitz discuss the importance of hiring people previously involved in the justice system, not only as a mean of opportunity for those formerly incarcerated, but as an advantage for the companies that open the doors to them.

Hi Chris,

Looking forward to your appearance on CSPAN Sunday. I'm an outlier Lutheran minister who never the less will be unable to tune in much before 1230 EST as I will be wrapping up my Sunday worship commitments. I want to make sure that I get a chance hear any observations that you might have with regard to the following:

You have written and spoken a great deal about the rise of Christo-fascism and its unholy union with the most extreme and reactive elements within society, but I wonder if you might comment on the role or lack thereof of the so called progressive expressions within the Christian church today? To what extent has itself become captive to the left wing establishment and the democratic party to the point that it has become altogether untethered from the Prophetic tradition and the teachings of Jesus especially as articulated in the gospel renderings of Luke and in Matthew particularly in the Sermon on the Mount? And then how might the church regain or perhaps discover its true voice in speaking truth to power..

Thanks for your great work

In solidarity,

Brian Peterson

Omg this is the first mainstream minister I have read ( EXCEPT CHRIS of course) who has spoken about this! A cradle Catholic and I have mourned and spent my hearts blood on confusion as to why the so called “true”mainstream Christian churches have not decried and called out as heretics as -Chris demands-the crypto -Fascists adherents of so called Evangelical etc. religions who are known by their completely un-Christian political and societal demands and actions. (Perhaps due to the lasting terror in our consciousness of the Inquisition(s)et al ?) At any rate, thank you and I so hope you get in! This is VERY MUCH a discussion I want to hear...more than once!

Thank you Bernadene. You have no idea how much your words mean to me. I had gotten to a place quite recently of feeling I could not in good conscience continue to hitch my trailer to the well heeled bourgeoisie liberalism that has become practically credal in the expression of Christianity that I've lived with most of my life.

True story. Back at the beginning of the Trump administration when deportations all of a sudden became an outrage (but not during the time of the deporter in chief who previously occupied the white house) there was a group of people who would camp out at the Austin bus stop and hand out backpacks to children and mothers who were set to be deported. I made the mistake of asking why instead of handing out backpacks and all but enabling the machinations of empire we weren't organizing to put our bodies in front of the busses so they couldn't leave the station. The sound of crickets was deafening. We talk about education, direct assistance and advocacy but even that is too much for some. I wonder when we start to talk about joining with other like minded people to engage in coordinated direct action and civil disobedience. Another back pack or bake sale isn't going to bring down the empire..

But back to your words, it makes me stop and think that maybe I do have a role to play if even as a voice crying in the wilderness. It's a hard place to be though.

Oh Lord Brian, how I know the loneliness of your position! Read about my Cincinnati friend, now in heaven, Rev . Mac McCracken, a living saint if ever there was one! Perhaps we need more prayer for direct actors, as that is THE ONLY way, short of disastrous collapse as as Chris says (maybe not even then) that will wake us up to the call for action. Prophetic action and discourse is the only thing that will work at this late stage I fear, and where is the hope or sign for that? I’m so glad anything I can say will help you keep on keepin’ on, which is all that’s left us to. But knowing you are out there helps me too!!

I'm a coward too. I would have not put myself in front of that bus either.

Hey get this. I started making comments on utube / never have done that before. Just comments of truth and for peace. After one week this happened. If I make a comment now it won’t post it now. I can like something but not post. Also my app radio stopped all stations playing except BBC. This shows me it is not China or Russia stopping me / it’s USA & utube. Never did a swear or hate ting , just peace & truth. Very odd & fascist behaviour. It’s like what Elon revealed about twitter

You can raise holy hell with Y tube scream bloody murder to them every which way emails etc etc. Change your identifier (name email etc whatever they use to identify you) and bake them chase you down - they might give up. It’s a lot of BS once they identify you! Good luck. Any one else have suggestions ??

& yes , one is on it . Spent a morning placing many complaints on things that Google has posted on YouTube & sent a letter to the google tech team & placed a complaint to their (ahem) costumer service.

Good news / they or someone on their team reinstated my ability to post. One doesn’t take this laying down and I refuse to be silenced . History is full of silence & now is the time for everyone to speak up. Thank you so much for your solidarity.

Imagine if the truckers, pilot , carpenters etc. had went on strike to support the rail workers wanting just five paid sick days leave. This is what is needed peaceful powerful solidarity. Let’s see if the UK rail workers fair better against their second unelected gov. leader on that side of the pond. 🌱🌎💫

Yes as Hedges and Zinn have always maintained what we need is the actual participation of large masses in solidarity. I haven’t seen Chomsky, Michael Moore and Nader advocate as vociferously for the mass rebellion and resistance as do the former two;they still seem to think voting is the ticket- ugh. I’m convinced only huge numbers that are sustained and hugely disruptive, the kind in which some are injured incarcerated and even killed. I think it’s a cause worth dying for. The deep state will not give up power for less. I’m old tho so maybe that has influenced me now.

--- Toxic spirituality is in part the antecedent of widespread social & cultural unrest.

--- Where are our contemporary prosocial spiritual "heuristics" coming from:

YouTube?

Antiquated dogma?

Fallible teachers and or parents – who are plausibly inclined towards bias and or fallacy?

--- In solution, replace “fault finding” with compassionate responsibility & restoration (restorative justice, instead of eternal punitive damnation). "Fault finding" damages the ego. Responsible compassion, instead fosters understanding and provisions restoration of wrongdoing and restoration of “self” (ego) in both the complainant and the defendant.

With ALL religious connotations aside the following should model a "prime directive" of prosocial & spiritual "heuristics":

- Right understanding

- Right thought

- Right speech

- Right action

- Right livelihood

- Right effort

- Right mindfulness

- Right concentration

Would we had more Buddhists like the BUDDAH and more Christians like Christ as Gandhi ( paraphrased )said : I like your Christ, I just wish his followers were more like him- and as another (I forgot who)said “It’s not that mainstream Christianity has been tried and failed; it’s that it’s never really been tried”... I am longing sorrowfully and constantly for these two truly prophetic and evangelizing groups to show up in numbers too large to ignore.

Hello, Chris- We live in France (left when the US attacked Iraq 2003); we're also in touch with Mr. Fish and we're reading War is the Greatest Evil (one of so many Hedges books in our library!)

But we have no idea HOW to call in to the show. We've put ourselves on an alert list, but we doubt

that will do much. We DO have a question for you, just have no idea how to proceed. But we'll keep researching.

Many many thanks for your continuing work and efforts.

Chris,

Enjoyed your appearance on C-Span. Some pushback regarding "suicide":

-As I recall, "Bowling Alone" was criticized when it was published for presenting an inaccurate picture of American socializing. While it's true that people aren't joining bowling leagues like they used to, bookclub membership has skyrocketed. So people still like socializing with other people.

-Some people who don't have "social bonds" (work, family, friends, community, etc.) commit suicide, but many, many people with a spouse, children, and a job also commit suicide, as we have seen in a high-profile instance (Twitch) recently. I don't have statistics on whether the former or the latter has the greater number of suicides but it seems to me that the presence/absence of "social bonds" may not be sufficient as an explanation for the majority(?) of incidents.
