What an inspiring interview! I’m so tired of being chastised by establishment Democrats about having to support the Democratic Party because otherwise we get Trump — and that not voting for a Democrat for president is a vote for Trump. In other words, they’re willing to sacrifice a whole population, the Palestinian people, in order to defeat Trump and sustain or gain some measure of comfortability in lives that are already more comfortable than most. And it’s not just the Palestinian people they have been willing to sacrifice. It’s also our own civil liberties, our freedom to speak truth on our campuses and elsewhere. It’s a willingness to sacrifice truth itself. I am no longer a Democrat, and I have gained a sense of freedom as a result. Freedom not to compromise my most basic values, like opposition to genocide. Something we are required to give up if we remain Democrats.

Yeah, ain't it funny how "Vote blue no matter who!" only applies when the Team D establishment is trying to shame waverers into the polling booths?

I Love this fiery woman! Just when I thought I could not be any more disgusted by the Democratic Party, my disgust has multiplied many times after listening to this piece. Thank you.

Agree 💯! I didn't want her to stop! An absolute gem of a human!

Absolutely. "The Democratic party are the best builders of Trumpism." Thank you for this great interview.

Sawant is a fighter without peer. Just relentless.

I've no clue as to how Mamdani will turn out.

Kshama Sawant for Congress!! ✊

As far as I’m concerned Mr. Mamdani has achieved a victory even greater than he’s likely to achieve should he win in November.

As Mayor, he may do the things he promises, or not. I’m not naive enough to think he’ll have the opportunity to do much.

But, in winning now, he’s done two things.

He’s drawn out the poison from society, for all to see, in the form of near rabid pronouncements from pols and pundits who read labels without ever testing the product; those who see a ‘Socialist’, without understanding the word. And a Muslim, who terrifies them before he ever says a word. Their ignorant taunts and insults shame only them, because now a million people have their votes to defend

Then, he’s shown, with dignity, humor, and intelligence, that it is possible to stand up to the Zionist juggernaut. A huge accomplishment.

The fact that so many people voted for Momdani despite this has given voice to a million New Yorkers who needed only a slight push. It’s their victory that counts, not Mamdani’s. It’s they who, invigorated by this first victory, have been given the courage to take it forward.

I saw part of a clip of Mamdani's mother and holy mackerel, she's one strong, remarkable, grounded, beautiful human being.....yea, he's swimming against a tsunami of do-re-me...he knows that....his 40,000 volunteers know that....we must find ways of supporting him so the big-wigs know this time it's a different kettle of fish....certainly, learning about him and what he stands for and what impresses us about him constitutes our narrative for everyone and anyone we bump into....this might be the moment for a proliferation of study groups on democratic socialism....reading groups....researching activism that works...a terrific old hand at environmental activism, who knows well the ropes, is Jim Britell who also happens to have a great sense of humor . See www.britell.com. A remarkable man! Seek him out! He wrote "The Broccoli That Ate Port Orford".....

Sam B.'s avatar

It's not the 400000 volunteers who are the main ones who need to demonstrate that they have teeth, it's Mamdani.

Selina Sweet's avatar

So, Sam B., for you Mamdani currently is toothless? Really? Hmmm. I guess one person's spine is another' s tootlessness. Well, we'll see how he holds up his intentions in the face of the oligarchic tsunami headed his way. As for the 40,000 followers. I know far too many people who tell me they do their political acts by being good to other people. Going into the street? Never! It's not who they are, they say.

Sam B.'s avatar

I think he has a lot of courage, but one doesn't know if he has teeth until he's in office. His comments foreshadow a possibility that he will cave in an effort to appease the ruling class. Did you even watch the video?

Sawant is virtually the only completely honorable, uncorruptible politician in the US. And she's on the side of regular people and is a total firebrand. She's one of my greatest heroes. Can we clone her please? How about a cloning assembly line? 😂 She brings up very significant concerns about Mamdani: is he for real? Time will tell. If I were him, I'd listen to every word she says. Let's hope he does.

Settle down, everyone. Cuomo will run as an independent, solely for the purpose of taking votes from Mamdani. That an a propaganda blitz like nothing since 9/11 will ensure Mamdani is made to lose. "Muh Democracy is saved!" will be the cheer.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

forceOfHabit's avatar

I think KS was very clear that she was not counting any unhatched Mamdani chickens. She expressed both unflinching her support if he stays the course on behalf of the people, and her fear that he would fall for the seductions of careerism that have corrupted so many would be reformers before him.

And besides, the blow to the myth of pro-Zionist invincibility (especially in NY), is one well hatched chicken worthy of counting.

forceOfHabit's avatar

P.S. You're not wrong about the upcoming propaganda blitz making Mamdani's actual election unfortunately highly unlikely. Nor will the propaganda blitz subside if he does somehow manage to get elected, making a successful term in office even more unlikely. Still, we have to try...

Feral Finster's avatar

I wouldn't call the election a blow to Zionist invincibility. Unless and until Mamdani can win in the general, it's just woulda coulda shoulda.

The whole thing was so informative. Thank you!

Brilliant, she is so right on. I've been a Democrat since 1972, and over the years I've seen the slow and then accelerated erosion until, essentially, the Democratic party has become at least as "bad" as Republican and in cover-up and outright con, the worst in many ways--placating Dems with just enough "good" policy to keep us hoping or at least holding out to see while convertly burying the workers'/citizens' needs and progress, internationally becoming a monster, plundering and undermining other countries people/citizens' existence, under disgraceful hypocritical rhetoric and false promises. Most Republicans don't give a shit at this point and say it; Democrats talk a good story but are absolute betrayers of the people, of world peoples as well. I stopped voting for either party after Obama, but I'd had enough after Clinton. That's how Trump got elected, voting for him and not voting was a lash out at the hypocrisy, betrayal of the Dems. There's virtually no difference anymore and the Gaza and Ukraine mass murder clinched it for many.

Sawant is doing what it takes, dealing with the real baseline issues, the deeper soul of this betrayal, this steal, and fiercely honest and open. Hardline. Her clarity is profound. Thank you for this marvelous information, letting us hear her. As always, a great show.

Hats off to Kshama Sawant for spearheading the worker’s fight in the Seattle area. It appears that her stratagem of non-collaboration with the billionaire and super wealthy classes, has secured the workers cause many victories. Zohran could learn plenty from her pertinaciousness and her unyielding character.

Ksharma is awesome. (Her fixed intention reminds me a little of Greta, but with more horsepower.) Hope Mamdani listens to this. He's up against a mountain, he'll need all the 'don't make this mistake' advice he can get.

Today (7/3) I also found a podcast of the invaluable Mike Benz. I believe it is impossible to overstate the importance and brilliance of this episode – extension of now forbidden Alex Kreiner’s book “Grand Deception”.

The Secret Backstory Of "Russia-gate" Fever: How Putin's 2003 Arrest Of The Blob's Top Oligarch Asset Inside Russia Sparked The Foreign Policy Flame War Trump Inherited -- Mike Benz @MikeBenzCyber -- July 3, 2025

Ukraine was just a repeat, by same people, of what was happening in Russia before Putin stopped it.

Once again, it is simply not possible to overstate the importance of this timely analysis…

I love listening to her interviews. Can the Green Party and DSA combine into one larger party?

Sawant is a run on sentence: And....and....and.....and. Very tiring drivel. She's a communist in socialist cloaking. Seattle might brag about dinging Bezos and Brian Niccol for more tax revenue. But my guess is that those corporations will relocate and leave Seattle in worse economic condition than it ever was...or could imagine. In my opinion the economic foundation Sawant builds upon is an economic house of cards. As for Mamdani: Just look at his "platform"; nothing there but political alchemy. More communism. Folks want to make his campaign about being Muslim ( I couldn't all less what religion he is) because they are too lazy to analyze his campaign platform. That is all one needs to dismiss this loony tune. His The mantra is 'steal from the rich and give to the poor' which is as old a notion as Robin Hood and capitalism itself. Doesn't work. Two wrongs don't make a right. All he does is try to redefine "profit" to make it a dirty word. He claims what the "rich" are doing is illegal--and all the wage earning peons are law abiding citizens. Right.

For example: the mantra for Mamdani is "freeze rents". Why? What right does the State have to arbitrarily freeze anything in a capitalistic society that built New York from the ground up? Zoning regulations are written in the law by democratically elected officials.. I suggest New Yorker's hold their administrators accountable for enforcing all zoning infractions fairly and effectively. The problem is that they don't. The government,, at all levels, is full of corruption and cronyism. What makes anyone think that a rent freeze is going to change that fact? It won't. Mamdani will just add another layer of expensive bureaucracy for code enforcement to ostensibly oversee City owned "affordable housing" units. These units will break the same laws that are currently being broken...and who is going to enforce the code of illegally operated and State owned housing units? Nobody. The result will be a case of 'worse than even" squalor in my opinion.

For example: The city enacted LL97 to make NYC greener and effecient--setting unrealistic goals by law (with no road map toward achievability) that was nothing more than political alchemy. That is why the green goals have gone un-met. It was an unrealistic and impractical bar set by bureaucrats that have no idea how to run a government, let alone an efficient business--which is what Mamdani wants to turn NYC into. He wants government to compete with Landlords and Contractors--all with an automatic and unfair business advantage of not having to pay taxes while doing that business. This is what is done in China folks.--not the U.S!-- at least not yet. Now Mamdani wants the City to buy all the newly efficient HVAC equipment and re-sell them to dwelling complex's and co-ops instead of individual contractors making direct deals with the owners of to buy and install the equipment (which has been done for the past, oh, 75 years or so--without a peep from the public. Just image, what contractor is going to install these "at cost" units? None. So the City will do it? Like they have the resources or the track record for effeciency and cost effectiveness in public works? Please. This is nothing but more political alchemy. Any business owner knows that they must sell equipment they install and make a PROFIT on that equipment. If not, then they might as well be working for someone that does. In this case, Mamdani must believe they should-and become an employee of the State. He apparently believes that communism is the only answer to our social equity and salvation, because that is exactly how government would have to operate in order to achieve his vision--which is already being put into practice by the PR of China. For me--No thanks!

For example: Mamdani wants government run grocery stores. See example above. Again, No thanks!

For example: Mamdani wants free bus service. Says that "expert economists" have studied the pilot program in NYC and given it a big thumbs up in terms of generating an economic boon to those area by making bus transit "safer" and more patronized (by 30%). More political alchemy. Why safer? Because there was not till to take in money as fare...and therefore no thievery of the till. Thus, more safe. Well, that kind of goes without saying...but the only ones that were safer were the drivers, not the riders. Under this logic, we should cut out all registers in all business to make things safer. It all free folks--in the name of public safety. Free shoes at shoe stores with no register, free clothing at the department stores with no registers; free matinees at the movie theatre.. We will all consume more simply because we are safer. I guess the mantra here by Mamdani is: The more you don't have to buy, the more we all save--and stay safe. Also rider ship was up 30% or so. Why? They asked the riders why..and, why of course, they said it was because those pilot buses were free. Of course rider ship was up when it's free. Again, it kind of goes without saying--and you have to dig to find out this irrational and underlying alchemy of "free bus fare" political platform. I suppose to extrapolate under his logic all plane and train rides should be free. More people, as Mamdani says, will then participate in the economy and it will provide an economic boon to all sectors of the economy. Free food, at-cost HVAC equipment, free transportation, free movies theater tickets, etc. It will be such an economic bonanza for business. Bullshit.

But really folks, all of Mamdani's platform is not for Mamdani. It is for the oligarchs that have bought Washington's law makers and Washington's military industrial complex. Now they are eager to operate to entire scope of U.S. small business on a consolidated Corporate level--and more importantly operated on the tax payer's dime. They just need Mamdani to play the villain in proposing it. Better yet to frame a Muslim to sell it. Sure, he'll make his cut for doing the dirty work of opening the final door of turning the U.S. into a clone of communist China. But any tenure will be quickly wiped away by the oligarchs operating behind the curtains.

Mamdani would not be where he is at at this point if he were not being played as the useful idiot by the ever more powerful ruling class. Thus, I urge you to look at the bigger picture folks--before being driven over by the laden bandwagon of religious bias that oligarchs have programmed you to focus on with their sound bites.
