I was confident that Iran would prevail. I posted on my facebook page on February 17th the same. The west must be taken out of the drivers seat. The whole world is being led over the cliff. Getting the west, the U.S out of the drivers seat will not only benefit the world, it will benefit the American people.

That decision, which equated money with speech, struck down campaign financing laws to allow unlimited “independent” expenditures by wealthy individuals in support of political candidates. Citizens United merely extended Buckley’s holding to corporations. Today, billionaires are buying elections to a much greater extent than corporations (this has been documented). If Citizens United were overturned, billionaires would still be able to buy elections under Buckley. This may seem off topic, but Hedges wrote again earlier this week that Citizens United enabled billionaires to buy elections. It’s clear he hasn’t researched the issue, but is instead recycling propaganda that others have cynically used to fundraise off Citizens United. Other articles have been written about how the money these operatives have raised on CU has simply gone into their pockets. The point is that you can’t get a proper remedy without a proper diagnosis. My second point is that no one is infallible, and that includes journalists we admire. I believe that opinion journalism should be approached with a critical eye. I wouldn’t presume to educate Hedges about the Middle East, the Balkan Wars or the conflicts he’s covered in Latin American. Neither should he presume to educate us about the law unless he first takes the time to educate himself.
I’ve gained a lot from reading Hedges, both his books and his Substack articles. I’m subscribed because I value both his knowledge and his analysis. But one thing I’m not a fan of is “received wisdom,” that is, wisdom being uncritically handed down rather than exchanged. It’s evident to me that Hedges doesn’t read his comments. If he did, he would by now have corrected himself about Citizens United. I would rather have an exchange of sorts than a lecture. I learn from the comments as well as the features. I think
a worthwhile subject is the point of having a comment section.
As far as this interview, I did learn things. I just wish the professor had elaborated on his statement that Obama failed to honor the U.S.’s obligations under the JCPOA. His is the first accusation I’ve heard of that alleged failure. I tried to research the issue myself and didn’t find much on it. I’m not a fan of Obama’s, but I still would like to have heard some specifics. It’s the only thing the professor said that I hadn’t heard elsewhere, except for his description of his students’ reactions to the attacks.

I remember how furious I was in law school when we read Buckley v. Valeo. The Supreme Court justices who voted for the majority should have been impeached for that decision. Citizens United was just an extension of Buckley v. Valeo. This is just like people freaking out about Trump, when all he does is make already bad situations worse (in addition to being a vile pig who has no idea how to conduct himself in public).

One additional departure I have in point of view from you - I have never viewed the "mandates" as problematical , not constitutionally nor personally. One additional departure I have in point of view from you - I have never viewed the "mandates" as problematical , not constitutionally nor personally. I lived during the days of the iron lung and polio...the milkman's son in my 4th grade class died from it....if there is anything I can do to prevent someone and/or myself from getting sick, I will do it, gladly. Also, I've traveled a fair amount and have had many shots for different diseases....and I thank my lucky stars for being born at a time when wretched diseases are preventable via vaccines.
I agree with you about Hedges, but couldn't disagree more about mandates. How dare ANYONE tell people they have to put things into their bodies that they don't want! If you think the vaccine works, get it and mind your own business; what difference does it make to vaccinated people whether others are vaccinated? We have a right to control what is and isn't put into our own bodies, and should not be forced or coerced to take drugs we don't want.
Not to mention that the COVID crap wasn't even vaccines. They had to change the definition of the word "vaccine" in order to call them that, because they didn't prevent contraction or transmission of the virus.

Now Trump has to restrict Iran's ability to obtain nukes in order to FIX HIS OWN STUFF-UPS.
As for America; Trump supported Israel to the extent of threatening to destroy an ancient civilization if Iran did not submit to his will. As a result America may have to come to Israel's aid again & again & AGAIN; unless it wants to become complicit in destroying an ancient people called the Jews.
America is a great power in a rotten world. As such it cannot avoid being complicit in some monstrous act or other, Trump must soon learn that any peace treaty that is based on extortion; threats & blackmail has proven to be VERY TEMPORARY.
