This is beyond terrifying. All I could wonder was how did this jump start in Germany and why aren’t we hearing about it in other independent media outlets? We know Mr Hedges has always delivered the truth so perhaps this shifts the narrative for this brave man, trapped in his own country but exiled. Is there anything crueler to a family….? If only there was a way to send financial support.
He is not the only one, it is a totally unlawful mechanism, in the middle ages called 'Vogelfrei' or outlawed - Europe or better the European Union is TOTALLY out of control! Anybody in doubt what is coming down the pipe I can only highly recommend this:
Thank you very much for this........I have read it and passed it one.
It sounds like the genocide in Gaza and the determination of the Europeans to keep on the killing fields in Ukraine have more connections than most would imagine.
Being able to sanction a journalist as this man has been is the essence of anti democratic.
It is also informative that the 'so-called right wing party' in Germany......the one I'm reading elsewhere has neoNazi elements, was the only party to vote against this draconian law. Looks like once again.........the west is anything but the Good Guy when it comes to international intrigue.
Indeed! I do not like the AfD (for many reasons, but if you listen to Ms Weidel - she is a very intelligent person ... and I don't like this procedure in the background that they want to outlaw AfD - what about democracy?? Reason of course is, that the mainstream parties are scared sh...less!) - they were successful in getting rid of the party I would love (BSW Sahra Wagenknecht and others) and also here you can see how scared the big parties are, as they really go after them, suppress any 'good news' or message from them and simply run a giant smear campaign ... (sorry, my opinion is, Europe is 'cooked')
Europe may well be 'cooked' if they imagine ginning up war with Russia is going to save an economy that should be getting all hands on deck to ramp the technology that can save us from climate change.
Our lazy faire ideas that the poor in the third world could do the work, and we'd buy cheap the products of their labour has come back to bite us all....
The imperial history of the west may take us all down......land acknowledgements and other liberal lite BS to the contrary....we simply can't steal, or war our way out of what we've baked in with all this combustion we're so fond of...........be it in tanks or private jets......fossil gas is almost 100 percent methane........a green house gas 80 times more potent than CO2, for the 20 years it remains in the atmosphere.
AND OUR BRAINIACS IN POWER HAVE TOLD US ITS A CLEAN TRANSITION FUEL....while blowing up pipelines, or building the damn things on other peoples land.
Zionism is Nazism in Jewish clothing. If there is no other way, it must be demolished the way Nazism was demolished in the 1940s. Otherwise, it will perpetrate holocaust upon holocaust, the way Nazism did while it was able to do so.
In “The Kill Switch,” I documented how this architecture was deployed against an international prosecutor. Hüseyin Dogru is the next demonstration - except in his case, the switch is being held by the EU itself, against its own citizen, on its own soil.
That distinction matters enormously. The sanctions architecture was designed for people outside Europe. Applying it to a German journalist living in Berlin exposes how little the legal framework was ever built to protect the person it targets. He can’t pay his lawyer without asking permission from the government he’s fighting.
Dogru named it precisely: “militarization of the information space.” That’s the endpoint of the infrastructure I described - not just the ability to deny services, but to make the act of reporting the thing that gets you designated. The sanction doesn’t say he committed a crime. The EU’s own website states that sanctions are designed to change “non-illegal behavior.” They are, by their own definition, a tool for compelling compliance with foreign policy preferences.
The self-censorship effect he describes — journalists afraid to report on his case — is the kill switch working as designed. You don’t have to flip it on everyone. You flip it on one person visibly enough that everyone else adjusts.
European regimes have no priority other than The War On Russia and are quite happy to jettison a y remaining civil liberties or pretense of democracy in pursuit of that war.
This is also why europe is so brutal in cracking down on anyone protesting Israel's genocides. European strategy since 1917 has been to get Americans to fight their wsrs for them, and for their part, the Americans are touchy about Israel.
We should also take a vow to never lean into hate or propaganda that poses 'the other' whichever other that may be..........as the bad guy.
Demonization of folks you've not met is the ad hominem fallacy taken to International proportions. It makes negotiations difficult and peace impossible.
We might also start conversations that interrogate what it is in the west that makes so many pull the 'evil' card so quickly. Our opponents aren't evil......they are people with their own fears and concerns.
We'd get back to negotiation and cooperation pretty quickly if we refused to demonize the other, and instead started analysing what it is in us that makes us HATE so easily.
"because when we found out that I’m sanctioned, we read the sanctioned reasoning, and that is also, I think, quite dangerous and shows where Europe in general is going. It said, “Sanctioned under the 17th Russian sanctions because of very deep financial and personal ties to the Russian state’s propaganda operators.” And then they tried to explain why is that so, and they gave, and it’s still online that paper, three reasons. First one was that I interviewed Palestinian resistance groups... The second reason was that I reported from a university occupation here in Berlin, Humboldt University,... And the third reason was that I covered protests, demonstrations, and violent demonstrations in Germany and in Europe; therefore, I am apparently trying to create discord and destabilize Europe. Therefore, only Russia can benefit from that, which is a very hard thing to believe to having that formula and reason." Authocrats need no reasons, they fabricate them there in Europe and in our America. Thank you both of you for telling the truth. Here Mr. Hedges, Amy Goodman and the other brabe reportes still can speak although it seems it will not be for too long unless we change those fascist politicians in the general elections.
This is not just censorship. This is the state discovering it can punish a journalist without the inconvenience of proving a crime. Freeze the bank accounts, trap him inside the country, starve the family down to 506 euros a month, make friends afraid to bring diapers, then call it an “administrative measure” with a straight bureaucratic face. That is civil death. And the silence from German media may be the loudest part of the story. When journalists are too frightened to cover repression, the repression has already worked.
Thank you Chris Hedges for bringing the case of Huseyin Dogru - we can only hope that 'things' change if more people know about this lawless procedure of heartless bureaucrats (which so very much reminds me of Kafka's The Trial)!
We cannot perceive spiritual truth until we feelingly experience it, and many truths are not really felt except in adversity. Effort may or may not produce joy, but there is no happiness without intelligent effort. Action achieves strength; moderation eventuates in charm. We do best when we "dare to do justice and are big enough to show mercy."
All religions are good just to the extent that they bring God to man and man to God. Is there a religion on this earth that could not profitably study and assimilate the best of the truths contained in every other faith?
To my mind, we've depended entirely too much on faith and let that guide us to not doing as much homework as necessary. Seeing through bad policy takes work, training and intelligence. Doing it well may be doing God's work........but she would prefer that we do the work........and leave the mystery of all life on this planet to her.
The Christian west has much to answer for.......I might come back to the church once we start digging into where we went so wrong that a belief starting with a very gentle man could now be complicit in genocide and all in on ginning up a war with Russia.
I see nothing godly in any of it...........it do see a lot of wanna be gods, up to their necks in dumb warmongering.
It is well known (emperically) that religion brings the best of the good man and the worst of the bad ones. All faiths have some things to teach us which are extracted from our evolutionary experience during millions of years. What we need is not to be restrained by a particular scripture or preacher but rather to listen to the spirituality that nature bequested on us. After all, Mother Nature might be God, or so is what the pantheists believe.
Apologies for making an obvious observation, but the thought came up again.
There seems to be a pattern, a continuing shift in global Zeitgeist, which has been occurring for a number of years: a shifting to authoritarianism in seemingly all nation-states, across the board, whatever the basis of political ideology ("left/right"- which are too broad to have much meaning, religious, ethnic). In a way, it is like the opposite of the global movements toward social justice in 1968.
A time of the shifting of social structures, reflecting the shifts in global power structures. The ascendancy of tech, now vying for power with financial, defense state (including arms, military industrial complexes, banking, petroleum).
The element that is new is that of the threat on non-state, extra legal repression, in the interests of groups for which there is no accountability, and for which the existing institutions offer no counter. They will act in their interests, in the name of stability, which will be increasingly appealing in the scenario of continuing and accelerating crises: economic and climatic.
Already those political societies that have historically been the freest, those who proclaim that they are predicated on the principles of reason and enlightenment operate in practice less and less distinct from those historical examples that are archetypically repressive.
What nations are left that truly function in the manner which in the last century approached democracies?
This potential (probable?) scenario made dystopian by the capability of societies, a world, in fact, running on the universal platform of the internet, it's machinations opaque, the levers of power acting with anonymity and impunity. We seem to see the leading edge of it.
This is beyond terrifying. All I could wonder was how did this jump start in Germany and why aren’t we hearing about it in other independent media outlets? Suicide by warfare may seem their only option.
Absolutely, agree 100%
Thank you for the link and more information on this topic. Here in the USA it’s unknown.

very disturbing So now we are all prisoners.
Thank you Chris Thank you Huseyin
in fact, this is the most disturbing
Makes me feel sick about the stress on family and children.
A lot of questions many questions
all citizens of all countries have to help Anyone who’s attacked Or blacklisted whatever you wanna call it.
We must not allow such evil to have any success or gain momentum.

Couple this with the recent Prairieland convictions and the obvious is on full display.
The shelves of an open society's are all but empty.

“Civil government is founded on justice, even as true religion is founded on mercy.”
We have no justice nor mercy anywhere
We cannot perceive spiritual truth until we feelingly experience it, and many truths are not really felt except in adversity. Effort may or may not produce joy, but there is no happiness without intelligent effort. Action achieves strength; moderation eventuates in charm. Beautiful sentences, but could you teach this ignorant man which is a true religion founded on mercy and how it has improved the world?
All religions are good just to the extent that they bring God to man and man to God. Is there a religion on this earth that could not profitably study and assimilate the best of the truths contained in every other faith?
