While I agree whole heartedly with the last sentence.....I would generalize it a bit. We are all going to pay the price of our stupidity and cowardice as climate disasters proliferate and the mean spirited militaristic right rises everywhere..........in denial of reality and support for various forms of ethnic cleansing....dehumanization and blatant property theft.

The west has enjoyed over 40 years of global restructuring........jobs to the third world, riches to the first world. That China has succeeded in creating affordable green technologies...while raising the standard of living for many of her people is the crime we must punish. That a few white rapists and pillagers have become so filthy rich they can squander millions on electing a simpleton with big plans to steal even more of the worlds diminishing wealth for the benefit of said pillagers.....says all we need to know about our precious western values.

I weep for the Palestinian people......and for the few brave souls standing for our common humanity. In the short term, they are going to lose. In the longer term, we are all going to pay for our cowardice..........as the world order collapses and the long handle of Michael Mann's hockey stick graph finishes the stable world climate we all depend on.

But thank you Chris.........for contunuing to tell the truth in these pathetic end times.

Start saying Republicans and not his name!!!! They support this crap. If it’s just his name, then he’s the villain which is distracting from the truth

Sarah, true, but it's the democrats as well as the republicans who are involved in silencing students and people in general from voicing their opposition to the genocide Israel is implementing, and both parties implemented our many middle eastern wars for Israel's benefit, as well. As head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Biden said in 2002 that Saddam Hussein was a threat to national security and there was no option but to "eliminate" that threat. In October 2002, he voted in favor of the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq, approving the U.S. invasion of Iraq. A war Netanyahu pushed based on the same lie, then it went on from there.

100%. It was Butcher Biden who Sponsored the Genocide with waves of billions of dollars of Weapons. Blaming the Genocide on on party is incorrect.

The Partisan bickering is just a very effective tool to distract Americans off the truth. Both Corrupt Parties are owned by the Evil Military Industrial Complex, whose only goal is to maintain an ever increasing military budget, in order to run their CORRUPTION underneath. The is Massive Corruption in All Three Branches of the US Gov. Any American who still doesn't recognize that is helping them to destroy America.

Very important piece. Last week, the NYT published a story about Professor Finkelstein, who was fired from Mulenberg College in Pennsylvania for posts on social media about the genocide. The lengthy comments section was full of posts with identical phrases and arguments, the latter of which included statements that the carnage would end were Hamas to release the hostages. Of course, Netanyahu’s statements to the contrary have been widely reported. Another repeated falsehood in the comment thread was that there was no proof the IDF was responsible for recent killings of Palestinian civilians at food distributions sites even though the IDF had already admitted as much. The falsehoods were so frequently repeated, and in the same or similar words, that the question arose in my mind whether they were part of a coordinated disinformation campaign. That campaign in the media has been relentless. One poster said that Finkelstein’s social media posts encouraged antisemitic attacks on Jews, e.g., the attack on demonstrations seeking the release of hostages in Boulder. We can expect more allegations that protests against Israeli genocide lead to violence. Meanwhile, the conflation of anti-genocide protests with antisemitism enables the genocide to continue unabated, as intended.

I was just at Harvard, for my 60th reunion. Alan Garber, the Harvard president, spoke to thousands of alums about the fight against the Trump government. He got standing ovations. Several of them.

Harvard gave in at first but is fighting now, and none too soon. If Harvard had gone the way of Columbia, Trump would own all of American academia.

I had the opportunity to tell my classmates that as a Jew, it is my privilege and my duty to speak out against Israel's crimes. I hope I gave some of them, Jews and non-Jews, encouragement to do the same. One man did ask me what would happen to Israel and Israeli Jews. I said that Israel should be a binational state. There are successful binational states in the world today. I live in one, Canada.

I only had three minutes, or I would have said that Israel and Zionists have tried for decades to make everyone think that Israel = Judaism and that all Jews support Israel. They succeeded. And now those same people are saying, Don't blame us for what Israel is doing! It's Israel, not Jews! What's wrong with this picture?

What's wrong with this picture?

Good people stay silent....or are too busy to inform themselves, at the beginning of injustice.

Then when it becomes too blatant to ignore...........they do like a recent book's title suggests:

They claim they were against the injustice from the beginning. To some extent, many of us are guilty of that lie of omission.

Hedges is a literary giant trained in true morality , and is consistently willing to stand up for justice and the truth in the face of oppressive evil. Few can touch him as he castigates the institutional and political elites for their sad and consistent capitulation to satanical views and satanic stands which are leading to world catastrophe

Too many want to be good people, without doing the work good people need to do.

Chris,

As always, you "say it like it is!" And for that, I have a profound respect!

My much-trusted travel guide to the long tortured history of the overwhelmingly and internationally powerful Zionist worldview is Ilan Pappe. Pappe is a Israeli-born, anti-Zionist historian who has written widely over the decades about the way in which Zionists around the world have become one of the most financially and ideologically powerful lobby groups in the entire world. See Pappe's profoundly important book from the late 2010s, LOBBYING FOR ZIONISM ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC. Your voice, Pappe's voice -- both are "pitch perfect!" Thanks!

Your comment that Elon Musk is a neo-Nazi based on his raising his arm in gratitude to the crowd for Trump’s victory, as well as celebrating the administrations vision for space exploration is nothing but a lie. That's what his gesture was about. It's appalling that in this regard you are operating on the same level as MSNBC in pushing this lie. It's one thing to be critical of Trump and there is a lot to be critical of, but it does not have to be adorned with mistruths. In reading this article one might not think it was proceeded by the Biden administration, an acknowledged Zionist who got this genocide off the ground with the help of the neocons in his administration like Blinken, and a party which the neocons very much continue to support. I also fully recognize Trump's roll in the genocide and condemn him for that, as well as his continued crackdown on those who have the right to voice their opposition to this mass killing of a people.

Ingamarie's avatar

Huh? Musk made the salute. Calling it what it looked like might be called interpretation, but a lie??? You might be assuming that you know what every gesture means....that there is only one way to read a gesture as bizarre as that salute was.

There's also the fallacy of criticizing the article for what it does not say. It's true that both dems and repugs in your country have stood with Israel..........and done their best to erase who's land Palestine was before Britain and the allies gave the Zionists the right to colonize it...but Chris has been pretty clear in his condemnation of centrists (liberals) in America.

Fran's avatar

"Trump surrounds himself with neo-Nazi sympathizers such as Elon Musk, and Christian fascists who condemn Jews for crucifying Christ." I'm assuming you read this,. and there is no room for interpretation in this comment. He is calling Elon Musk, a neo-Nazi sympathizer. If you are going to be critical of the mainstream press which he often is, and rightly so, then why join them in pushing mistruths to substantiate your own particular bias. What you reference is not news to me, since I grew up with a mother who was an anti-Zionist, and even as a teenager knew how Israel came into being and the many atrocities implemented against the Palestinians.
