Human beings crawled out of the mud and up the evolutionary ladder. Now we're working our way down the other side. Chris is pretty right on.

It still begins and ends with U.S. adults. If the majority of us wanted this to end enough to actually make it a priority — that is, the genocide and the war on Iran and Lebanon — it would end. I had begun to hope that was within the realm of the possible. Then, last night I attended a debate among mayoral candidates in my city at which members of the sponsoring ward introduced a proposed resolution to cut off funding for both the war and Israel’s “occupation” of Palestine and “atrocities” in Gaza. (The proposal didn’t use the word genocide).

There were hundreds of people in attendance. The proposal included statements that support of the war and the Israeli occupation/atrocities violated both the Constitution and international law. One woman immediately stood up and said she “strongly” opposed the proposal and as grounds said she had relatives in Israel who are now “sheltering.” Another woman stood up and seconded her opposition. Both of them said the proposal was “divisive.” So think of it, supporting compliance with the Constitution is “divisive” in a U.S. city. Two people, including myself, spoke in favor of the resolution, which was drafted with the intention of sending it to the local Democratic Party (in a heavily Democratic city) and the DNC. Although the resolution received some support, it was voted down. The two women who opposed it were both high level operatives in the Democratic Party. One said she is running for a local office. I am not involved in Democratic politics and didn’t know either one, but apparently both are chairs of powerful committees in the party. There appeared to be some intimidation at play. Some people approached me afterward to thank me for my statement, but none had spoken out. Again, this is in a district dominated by Democrats, who supposedly constitute the majority of opponents to both the war and the genocide. I wasn’t eligible to vote for the resolution because I’m not a member or a delegate, but I think it illustrates the importance of involvement in politics at the grass roots level and is also indicative of what we’re up against. The task is huge, but we can’t afford to let the proverbial rock roll back down the hill. We don’t have a choice.

It sounds like you had a couple of "corporate problem solver democrats" at the meeting. You wrote, "The proposal included statements that support of the war and the Israeli occupation/atrocities violated both the Constitution and international law." The problem we're facing in America is that the long arm of corporate interest has grown stronger than the long arm of the law. And so, "corporate problem solver democrats" are what you end up with. You know what they say about the love of money...

Years ago I came across a custom manufactured bicycle company located in New England.

The company is named IF for Independent Fabrication. The bicycles perform, are beautiful by design and withstand challenges!

A long time Dem, after Bernie became front and center I decided to learn more about Independent voting and switched parties.

Since then many Dems thinking it safer have become cocooned, speak in cliche instead of touche and seek to preserve the status quo. Essentially they are boring and if you -are not sickened by decades of israeli aggressions and then wanton genocide you are definitely a big part of Democrat problem of being stuck -b/c it “appears” safer. It is not. It is only temporarily self serving.

Powerful words, thank you. I think that the world is beginning to wake up to this new reality. Critical journalism like this is more essential than ever.

Many of us have long recognized the Israeli trap the US has been in since the end of WW2. Since then, we have actually been militarily attacked by Israel with loss of US lives and with no retaliation by our government. Now we have Real Estate gurus running our country taking marching orders from the Israeli AIPAC. Anyone paying attention could plainly see the Israeli head traveling constantly to the US to deliver marching orders to our president who solidly supports the genocide many of US citizens won't tolerate and are sickened by the human brutality. We are on a very dangerous path following our genocidal leaders. It is long past time to examine the US role supporting this endless human suffering that has been going for over eight decades.

regretfully, I fully agree. my only hope is that the miracle which is life evolves a new and different species whose heart is bigger than its brain.

I guess you'd call me an obstructionist. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one...
