How many other nations are denied the right to have a defence force and how many need one more than Palestine? Their neighbours are a bunch of heavily armed, nuclear armed psychopathic religious fanatics, who have vowed for 40 years to totally destroy Palestine and to slaughter every Palestinian.
I don't see Hamas as a non-state actor, Hamas is part of the legally, democratically elected Govt. in Gaza. If any nation on earth needs to be disarmed, that would be Israel.
David, you raise important points, however... it is impossible for most countries in the region, let alone an independent Palestine to form a strong enough military force that can withstand destructive psychopathic players... What happenned with the armies of Iraq, Libya, Syria, and the Hezbollah in Lebanon? and now... IRAN is pounded as we speak. All I know is that peace and prosperity can't be guaranteed by military power alone.
Hi Jasmine, what you say is mostly correct, but my main concern is that Palestine is denied the right to a defence of any sort, and that denial would leave Palestine a subservient, second class state.
I think it's telling that with all the US supplied weaponry and their own indigenous tech, Israel has still not been able to defeat either Hamas or Hezbollah.
In my more philosophical moments I think that if NO country had a military then no other country would need one - there would be nobody to defend against. But given the behaviours of Homo Sapiens that ain't likely to ever happen, so I guess I will stick with Prof Sachs and vote for the UN as humanities' best hope, but without any veto and maybe with no Security Council at all.
Ever since the anti-war movement got underway at the beginning of this 21st century there were no questions in my mind who was behind the agenda to destroy Iran. It started off with Netanyahu pushing the idea of Iraq pursuing weapons of mass destruction, and Biden pushed it on the democrats and war-monger Cheney who elected himself into office made it happen. Interesting no one referenced Obama's role in implementing Israel's wars, Timber Sycamore which was an attack on Syria, and the attack on Libya happened during his administration. Iran was always on Netanyahu's hitlist and if you listened to him way back then it was number 1 on his hitlist. I'm happy Obama made that not happen, but of course Netanyahu tried his best to kill Obama's Iran Nuclear Deal. It went bye, bye under Trump. I think many administrations should be held accountable since this attack on Iran has been a long time in the making, and AIPAC has been around for a long time to sell it. I know Charlie Kirk was against this war and I wonder if it's the reason he is no longer with us.

In his first term the democrats and the powers that be overplayed their hand with many lies, and tried to undermine his presidency with the lie of Russia-gate and making the claim that the riot of Jan 6 was an insurrection, and now when he has done and said things that are appalling no backlash.
I’m amazed that there was no discussion of the upcoming vote in Congress about whether to fund this illegal war. That’s the off ramp — cut off the funding. That’s how the Viet Nam war ended. And it looks like there’s a reasonable possibility that Congress will vote to cut off the funding. To my surprise, even Hakeem Jeffries said today that he would not vote to fund this war. Of course the Republicans will mostly align with Trump, but given the increasing unpopularity of the war, even among Republican influencers and voters, all our efforts right now should be directed to that vote.
Flood Congress. Make March 28 an anti-war day.
Galloway got the respective death counts in Iran and Lebanon wrong, btw. At this point, there have still been more deaths in Iran. I’d like to know more about the allegedly heavy damage that Israel has sustained, especially given the news blackout there. It’s not that I disbelieve him, but it warrants a much more detailed discussion.
