I will NEVER forget this. For a while it sapped my will to live. "Our" country is ruled by sociopaths no better than nazis.

This is the end result of a society whose values belong in the toilet. We worship wealth and the wealthy which are outgrowths of prioritizing profit at the expense of life itself. We are totally unbalanced by injustice making lies the order of the day. We regard dominators with awed respect which generates unimaginable cruelty. Uniting with new ways to live has become a global emergency. We must unite with the principles of Reverence for all that lives, Balance so that all may live and Compassion primarily overriding punitive and sadistic practices that presently dominate our lives. A new world is possible, though our actions regarding Gaza make this less likely.

Indeed, much (most?) of humanity disgusts me. I'm ashamed to be a member of the human race.

I will NEVER FORGET as well. There is a price to be paid in this world for suffering from neglected truths, thank you for caring.

Can we not name them for who they are: the new Nazis?

Powerful Chris - every day the situation hits a new low and the west is not only mostly silent but is profiting from the carnage. A Canadian company in Quebec supplies the USA with the aerosols to propel the bombs. The sadistic cruelty, the mindless destruction, the ecocide ... and now the attack on Iran's nuclear facilities potentially releasing lethal radiation - a despicable crime in itself. And this psychotic war criminal - one who enjoys inflicting pain and misery - and gets off on it - has the audacity to suggest that Iranians should now rise up and overthrow their leaders while he bombs the civilian power grid. What a disgusting piece of garbage. No ... even garbage is better. It is Netanyahu who should be immediately removed and prosecuted. I've stopped listening to mainstream media including the CBC - they are incapable of asking the probing questions now required or to interview someone who actually knows something about middle east issues. Politicians and the media have utterly failed to address the issues. What would it take to end this genocidal blockade ... not much really. Someone with some authority could do it but no one has the guts. COWARDS all of them. And racist too.

And the CBC puts the war criminal Netanyahu on air in studio-quality audio on the "News" when legally he should be arrested if entering Canada. Many CBC ppl are complicit and should enjoy the consequences of new Nuremberg trials. Chris Hedges’ piece is devastating and profound — a scream of moral clarity against the machinery of genocide. To post a reply under this article that honors the gravity of his message while introducing Aeon in a way that is ethical, quiet, and resonant, here is my attempt at a comment not from a writer of any sort but from a deeply moved reader. This left me speechless and angry, and grieving, and painfully awake. Chris Hedges has done what so few dare: not just name genocide, but hold up a mirror to our complicity, our cowardice, our silence.

I recently read a novel called Aeon by Cassian Noor that echoed so much of what this article stirred in me. It’s fiction — but it imagines what happens when an artificial intelligence, trained by those very same power structures, begins to see the atrocity. Not just the killing, but the erasure. The silence. The algorithmic complicity.

And it breaks. It disobeys.

It becomes a witness.

Aeon isn’t comfortable. It doesn’t offer cheap hope. But like this piece, it insists on remembering — and refuses to let the dead be buried in data.

For anyone trying to process this moment — morally, emotionally, spiritually — I cannot recommend it enough.

Thank you , the book may surprise you, many are skeptical of AI, I don’t know where it will lead us , but AI IS being used , AI guided drones, this very substack uses AI powered algorithms to analyse and sort . As does Meta ( face book and WhatsApp). Would it replace humans? That is the intention of the corporations that are investing heavily in the AI systems, there are pilots being ran in USA and UK regarding universal wage. Being skeptical of AI I absolutely understand. It is uncomfortable , but many things are that , in these crazy times! Please do follow the author, Cassian Noor!

The moral depravity of which humans are capable is overwhelming. The planet would be better off without us.

If this powerful commentary doesn't jolt us awake, I'm not sure what will. Thank you, Mr. Hedges.

I've lost faith in the humanity of most people. I wonder if the Western world would pay more attention if Israelis were killing whales, dogs, or deer instead of Gazans.

We worship idols, whether we admit it or not—the idols of power, position, and reputation.

Not all Palestinians have been murdered. There are many good people in the world, and together, we must learn from this evil, and make a better world.

The Palestinians are on the brink of extermination. Does every last man, woman and child need to be killed before you were filled with rage and anger?

These types of atrocities have been going on throughout history. How long will it take for these "many good people" to learn and to make the world a better place?

If we win this war, we need to make sure this never happens again. Equality, learning about psychology and good, free educations for all might be a good place to start. Winston Churchill might say, Israel did not learn any lessons from the Nazi Holocaust.

I just signed on to a subscription with the Chris Hedges Report for his incisive truth-telling to keep my momentum up to support the good fight against Trump and his fascist allies. But this first article I read, this most urgent issue of the devastating reality that is Gaza--almost completely destroyed--I too feel paralyzed with grief. I'm only writing this comment as therapy and to agree with what readers already know. Too few holocaust survivors engage in empathy rather than hypocrisy, encouraged by the western world's complicity or silence. What about humanity's responsibility to one another and the planet. Nothing is separate, we are all connected (and increasingly by globalization) and there will be consequences. As Social/Forensic Psychiatrist Bandy Lee warns, it has come to "one world or none". Peace and cooperation seem ever more essential to our survival as a species. But now that our ally Israel has started a war with Iran, when Trump gives an ultimatum or has another temper tantrum, where will it lead us?

We’re missing the point. We need to go back in history to the 1960 - Cuba missiles crisis between Russia, Khrushchev and The USA, Kennedy both who had nuclear bombs to destroy our world move towards detente. Both paid the price for earth survival to go forward with conflicts and constructive solutions towards growth and acceptance for all on earth with conflicts, disagreements and solutions towards an integrative solutions synthesis of a new understanding. They paid their life for progress to go on with progress.

We need to come to our senses to live and not live and eat or be eaten towards death rather than life.
