Because the conversation between Ramzy Baroud and Hedges began with a discussion of the murder of Mr. Baroud’s sister, who, among other things was a physician,

and Baroud’s statement about how physicians have been targeted by Israel, I wanted to share the following information about the imminent and ongoing activities of the global organization, Doctors Against Genocide. They are currently seeking the release by Israel of 18 Palestinian physicians, together with other health care workers who are being held without charge in Israel detention facilities. Tomorrow morning, they are delivering a petition to the AMA in Washington, DC demanding the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Sayif, whose deteriorating health has been the subject of many news reports. From the AMA, they will head to Capitol Hill to protest the Gaza genocide and will divide into groups to meet with and lobby individual members of Congress to end support for the genocide. As noted, their activities are ongoing. We can support them, either financially or in the flesh, or both. They can be contacted at leadership@doctors againstgenocide.org. (The algorithms keep breaking up the link, but it works if you type it without spaces).

Doctors Against Genocide's weekly Sunday webinar is not to be missed, for those who have the opportunity to watch.

I did not have the strength to take in all the horrors that Prof. Baroud's interview recounts.

Palestinians deserve justice, now!

I understand Baroud's need to keep an emotional distance from the horrors the Palestinians endured and continue to endure, and he has also suffered many personal tragedies, like the loss of his sister. I haven't reached the point where I can do that and at this point I don't want to do it either. I don't want to lose that emotional connect to the horrors Israel implemented against the Palestinians. There is too little coverage of what is happening to them now.

Mike's avatar

I will, no doubt, read every word, eventually. The emotional toll these accounts take is no light matter, though.

Steve Woodward's avatar

Thank you, once again, Prof Hedges, for allowing this insight into the details and history of Palestinian resistance. Professor Baroud's example of the fierce spirit of Palestine reminds me that the Palestinians are the best of us, and their resistance to colonial empire is inspiring.

Adriana's avatar

What a privilege to listen to these stories, even if they will break your heart.

It still amazes me how much we don't know. I wasn't educated in the US so I have a much better understanding of the world but I was still educated in the Western hemisphere, in the Global South. Each time I learn something of so much value, I can't understand why it is not widely known. I am naturally curious, so I look for more. Yet, I know very little

Thank you Mr. Baroud for sharing it all with us. The interview as way too short, I will certainly look for the book

Ingamarie's avatar

I'm beginning to suspect we in the imperial west are the most propagandized people on earth. I listen to youtube analysis now, and going from John Mearscheimer or Jeff Sachs to mainstream television is like transitioning from a university course to entry level Sunday school.

Plus: no one is telling the whole truth about the actual casualties over there....one utube, I think with Col Wilkerson included a statement from a leader in the IDF. When asked about actual casualties the man said, 'take the official count and multiply by three." Still, for msm, Hezbollah is the terrorist group, the IDF???? A question that likely draws a white out blank in many western media mindsets.

This interview asks us to step inside the victims of the genocide and imagine their resistance. It isn't easy, but I suspect without a capacity for empathy and imagination, it might well be impossible.

Adriana's avatar

I am also watching Glenn Diesel in YOuTube. He has deep analysis with the same people you mentioned

Zionism is terrorism. The world ignores Palestinians but when they kidnap and torture supporters of Palestinians, like the Flotilla activists, they torture them and the world listens. And the two activists that were taken to "Israel" tell how bad it was for them, yet they could hear the screams of the Palestinians prisoners, and some of the torturers implying that they would like to kill them (the activists) but could not afford the political backlash

Shame of us (collective us) for taking so long to start to wake up. But the resistance will not die. With each atrocity, more people join it, even if with only words. We need everyone.

Ingamarie's avatar

Yes. AND FACING HOW LONG WE'VE BEEN DUPED.........BY VIRTUE SIGNALLING WEAPONS MANUFACTURERS QUITE OFTEN...........is part of that wake up.

Free Palestine!!!

Ingamarie's avatar

Considering the long life that imperialistic lies have in the privileged west, it is refreshing to read this account. In particular, thank you for the peasant foundation of the Palestinian resistance.

People of the land are my people......we too were illiterate until the last couple of generations, and we too take our politics from the actual land that feeds us.

Those who live off the land are also those who care for the land. Without those actual peasants, its rip and ship until there is nothing left but sand. Unfortunately it is also likely true that it is the petit bourgeouis who chose to co-exist in some way with the invaders.....in the west, we all like to believe we're middle class, poverty wages to the contrary, so perhaps that's one reason why we've been so slow to wake up to what has been happening in Palestine.

We recently watched the movie PALESTINE 36 and learned the perfidy of the British imperialists in taking the side of the Zionist invaders, even prior to 1948. There is so much we don't know in the west. Likely why so many of us start, and end, with our conclusions.

Thanks for helping us get past our certainties.

BadVsEvil's avatar

Yikes Chris! Why did you hit with the most soul wrenching question from the very beginning? Was it just an oversight?

Ingamarie's avatar

Chris likely doesn't subscribe to our western squeamishness, which always guarantees we avoid the centre of human sorrow. And resistance.

Nat Tunbridge's avatar

Amazing, thank you Chris and

Ramzy 🙌❤️

Hedges has been playing it safe since the lockdowns ...

And although he denounces societal divisiveness, he often finds a way to incite and perpetuate it through his public statements ... he not only took sides against our best interests on the jab, mandates and passports, but just listen to the nasty comment he made in his otherwise terrific AMERICAN SADISM speech ...

He actually denounces the MSM's engineered divisiveness and in the same breath, demeans and shames those of us who question the motives and tactics of our elected officials ...

Go to the 43:09 mark at the link below and listen very carefully at the 44:32 mark as he conflates us with Q-ANON types ... in a crude expression of divisiveness, he blames "spontaneous groups" for trafficking in conspiracy theories ...

https://scheerpost.com/2021/06/29/chris-hedges-speaks-on-american-sadism/

Hey Chris, do you mean spontaneous groups like that mob in Minneapolis who expressed their outrage at those ICE murders?

If you don't like him, well, you don't like him, so why are you on his site and use every opportunity to go on the attack, You don't address his posts, this post, his interview with Ramzy Baroud, but divert attention elsewhere.

Ingamarie's avatar

The weirdest part of our western psyche, at least for me, is a kind of competitiveness and one upmanship...........that manufactures disagreements, so as to remain the 'rightest' person............at least in our own imagination.

It's a large source of the isolation many of us experience, even in the resistant left.....so many of us would rather argue than support.

John Ressler's avatar

Ignore this poster - he is here to disrupt. He's an attention seeker. I suggest he gets his own Substack page that will result with ZERO followers.

Ingamarie's avatar

Most likely...........but anti-vaccers usually have to deal with me. The arrogance with which their certainties consign gullible people to possible death is deeply offensive to me.

Fran's avatar

I think you're right in regard to people talking politics, and is also true of the mainstream media since they now have lost their objectivity and take sides. I think Douglas wants Hedges to be in alignment with his perspective on the truth, and that is understandable if one also recognizes people differ in their perspective, and they can allow for differences of opinion and let bygones be bygones. I think he wants a guru and Hedges wasn't it for him.

Douglas Carlson's avatar

I usually make just vague connections to his posts, so what?

I am doing exactly what the pro-Palestinian protestors did on college campuses throughout the country ... like them, I am confronting an opponent on his own turf who betrayed my trust ... Hedges set the bar very, very high and then bailed on us with the lockdowns ...

I once admired this man, but not anymore ... I read all but one of his 12 books, but unlike you, Fran, I never stopped listening ...

Here's his greatest hits since the lockdowns ...

---------------

Hedges loves to "juice" his storylines ...

1) Shortly after the OCT 7, 2023 attacks, he assured us that "Netanyahu is finished!" ... that was 30 months ago and look what's happened since!

2) In an interview with John Valiant, author of FIRE WEATHER, he said the Ft McMurray tar sands fires "will soon render the planet uninhabitable." But of course, he failed to give us a timeline - that was 25 months ago!

3) In early 2024, he said "Gaza is unlike anything we have ever seen", when he had to know better as 377k had been killed in Yemen between 2015-2022 by a Saudi-led coalition.

4) In his 2021 AMERICAN SADISM speech, he went out of context to conflate those of us who question the motive and tactics of elected officials with Q-ANON types by calling us "members of the lunatic fringe who traffic in conspiracy theories."

5) In a 2021 interview, he boasted that he told indigenous pipeline protesters to "park your cars in their path, remove the engines and walk away" ... But he did not even comment on the Canadian Trucker's Convoy until until a March 2022 interview with JD, one month after the protests actually ended.

6) In an amazingly tepid moment during a SEPT 21, 2021 interview on USEFUL IDIOTS, he was asked to comment on the untested, illegal and unconstituional jab, and said: "it's a tough decision I guess, do you force people to get vaccinated?" ...

7) In an AUG 27, 2021 interview with JD he refused to stand with us against the mandates and passports as he sheepishly blew it off: "that was just a decision that I made."

8) And the big one: In a JAN 1, 2022 interview on the KK&F podcast and exactly 30 days AFTER the FDA FOIA release revealed 1,223 deaths and 25k medically-verified injuries in the first twelve weeks of Phizer's trial, he took sides against our best interests and said: "I don't think we can stop the pandemic and the mutations until EVERONE GET VACCINATED."

9) Later in 2022 and after refusing to take sides against the unconstitutional jab, he said "the constitution remains a sacred document"

I've got more and I've got the receipts. I ready to post links here, all ya gotta do is ask!

Fran's avatar

I've disagreed with things Hedges had to say, and sometimes he can get pretty dramatic. However there is no reason for you to be here if your responses are about your anger of his past "misconceptions." or his "miscalculations" about the future. It comes across as if you saw him as some kind of guru, who disappointed you. I don't think you even responded to his interview today. Look at the bright side, you could have picked Trump as your guru, then you wouldn't know whether you were coming or going.

Ingamarie's avatar

Read through Dougs objections to Hedges Fran and you come to the core of his disillusion. Chris Hedges understood vaccine science and wasn't on the Kennedy nutbar crusade against them.

Doug, like many Americans, some of whom funded the trucker convoy that cost Canadians..........was against covid mandates and vaccinations.

It's one of the best conspiracy frictions the radical right has come across in the last decade..............many Americans died because they chose to mistake the cure for the disease. Doug's mad at Chris for not being among the anti-vacc brigade.

There's a thing just now in the west. Everyone is looking for a faux threat......a danger small enough that we might defeat it easily. So hate the vaccine, doubt the existence of the virus.

Similarly: Hate the Environmentalists, doubt the reality of global warming.

We avoid the BIG FEAR, by manufacturing a SMALL FANTASY THREAT.

Classic displacement.

Fran's avatar

I'm still uneasy with getting this vaccine and perhaps it's my mistrust of Fauci and the pharmaceutical industry. I remember in the 1980's when AIDS became everyone's fear, and became so when Fauci during an interview claimed that some small children living within households with those who had AIDS contracted the disease which was an obvious lie on his part, since he was conveying the position that we all maybe vulnerable to AIDS. He opened a pandora's box, causing sheer fear on the part of the public. He may have said this to offset the prejudicial mindset in play at the time that gays and drug users were it's sole victims, but what happened is that he terrified people with the possibility we were all vulnerable. My brother had AIDS, died of it, and it was a living hell to deal with the lack of care he received while in the hospital, or the degree of rejection he encountered. Some doctor removed bloody effusions from his lungs, and left the bag of blood on his food tray which leaked all over his bedsheets and the floor. No one came to clean that up which was left to me and my husband. I can't begin to tell you all the horrors he experienced based solely on fear. During the Covid era, there was also a lot of misinformation and the degree of fear they instilled was over the top. A brother walking through Manhattan streets talking on his cell phone, his mask pulled to the side of his face, was verbally assaulted by a woman who felt he was endangering the life of others, and she wasn't uncomfortable in calling him a fucking bastard over and over. The fear level was over the top.

Also lots of distrust of the FDA in monitoring the pharmaceutical industry and for good reason. Drugs have lots of side affects and too often when they are given the patient remains ignorant of the side affects, and too often the doctors as well.

Ingamarie's avatar

The vaccines worked. I believe our Canadian records.....wasted no time in getting vaccinated myself and have had the boosters since.

In Canada, we discovered the vaccine for diptheria, over a century ago, and for Polio in my lifetime. I remember the kids paralysed by that disease, the poor victims who lived the rest of their life in an iron lung, and the world had eradicated that dread disease before the anti vacc nut bars got rolling.

They also cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars in the stupid convoy they organized to terrorize our national capital during covid. I have no time for them. Too often, they USE a crisis to run their weird views....funded by dark money more interested in fascistic solutions than on genuine democracy or good public health policy.

Science isn't perfect, and it can make mistakes. But it is a system designed to monitor its results and fine tune those mistakes.....Vaccine science is not the same thing as your big private Pharma......but I think that confusion frightened many. The records show the USA had the worse results per capita during the pandemic; much of that was due to the misinformation spread by some of the intellectual morons you have in office right now. Remember when Trump suggested gargling with bleach might help for the love of God??

It's a sad state when a nation can be convinced that wars in the Middle East are essential but good public health policies are suspect. From what I've read, the demonization of Fauci was also a witch hunt run by folks who believe in...eh...witches???

Douglas Carlson's avatar

I'm not going anywhere, Fran ...

And you're just here to run cover for him ...

This man morphed into a pompous two-face ...

He and sweet talkin' Tulsi have much in common ... they both made a name for themselves by denouncing imperialism, and they both scurried back into the woodpile when things got dicey to avoid offending the imperialists ...

Calling Hedges' response to the explosive FDA FOIA release a "miscalculation" is absurd ... there was nothing in that FOIA release to calculate ...

Phizer's own records revealed that 1,223 people died and another 25,000 sustained medically-verified injuries in the first 90 days of their own vax trial period ... no calculation by Hedges was needed ... exactly 30 days later, Hedges said: "I don't think we can end the pandemic and mutations until everyone gets vaccinated" ...so stop praising this self-centered jerk ... he doesn't give a hoot about us!

Ingamarie's avatar

You're an anti vaccer conspiracy fictionalist Doug.....and damned determined to cling onto your theories. Enjoy it as that Kennedy buffoon destroys your centres for disease control, etc. etc.

Douglas Carlson's avatar

You're doing it again, Ingamarie ...

You're putting words in my mouth ...

I never denied climate change (CC) is real, I only contend that level-headed, independent science has made a stronger argument than Bill Gates, Hedges et al that CC DOES NOT pose an existential threat to our species.

Ingamarie's avatar

Truth be told, you're an anti-vaccer.

It should occur to you at some point, that its YOU WHO MIGHT BE WRONG.

Given the reality that its very difficult for any one human being to be everywhere, all the time, and always get the details right.

Climate change denial has to be anti-science. Unfortunately, that stance puts many at risk of dying from a preventable disease, not to mention overwhelming underfunded medical facilities with sickness that could have been prevented with a vaccine.

Measles being the current fifth column the conspiracy fiction writers have going for them.

@douglas carlson: if chris hedges betrayed your trust, does the sole burden rest on HIS shoulders? if he made a wrong assessment, does he deserve your eternal, and harsh, criticism - at every turn of every way? - or does he deserve the 2nd chance you might be happy someone grants you in case you made a mistake?

Douglas Carlson's avatar

Julia, my thick-headed friend ...

Hedges took sides with big pharma and against OUR best interests by endorsing the jab exactly 30 days AFTER the FDA's FOIA release revealed 1,223 deaths and 25k medically-0verified injuries in the first 90 days of of Phizer's trial period ... click on my name to review the other posts I made that included links on this issue ... this was not a wrong assessment by Hedges ... ya see, there was nothing to assess ...

julia eden's avatar

granted, covid vaccines killed people. which is tragic. covid killed even more people. even more tragic. attracting long covid, another tragedy. living is a rather deadly endeavor. people die in car accidents. do you walk from A to B to Z bc of that fact? or do you drive a car, after all? ride a bike every once in a while? despite the high likelihood of getting run over? measles outbreaks spark now bc of increasing skepticism re vaccines ...

as to your elaborate posts to substantiate your views, i admit i dont take the time to read them bc i think that, overall, vaccines have done more good than harm.

julia eden's avatar

... in case this part got lost in my above reply:

PLUS: i dont follow chris hedges bc i want him to care about ME. i do follow him precisely bc he cares abt the people the white supremacist warmongering, war profiteering mainstream CON_tinuously ignores.

Eagerly awaiting your reply.

Nice work Doug. You've succeeded in creating a digression from the horrors in Gaza......and the courage of Palestinian resistance........to the death..........
