Francesca Albanese joins Chris Hedges to break down the current starvation campaign in Gaza, and her upcoming report detailing the profiteering corporations capitalizing on the erasure of Palestinians
The role of the US Empire, owned by the US super wealthy, is paramount. Empire has projects: the Ben Gurion Canal & access to the Gaza oil and gas fields, two examples. Both properties owned by the Palestinians. Unless they are gone. The extremely wealthy know that murdering is so more economical than treating people, like the Palestinians, with respect, dignity, and fairness. Our US ultra elite and their rich compatriots are the epitome of evil. They are DEADLY PARASITES. They are quite capable of killing millions to protect and expand their wealth. Psychopathic. Evil.
I agree, but why do the majority, some 85 percent of Israeli's support this genocide, which I think reflects very badly on them? Also the condemnation of Israel for implementing this genocide would also have to include the condemnation of the US for supplying the weapons to implement it. I think younger people, much more computer literate then older generations, are more aware of the truth since older people are reliant on a media that no longer conveys it. People were against our middle eastern wars, they marched and voiced their opposition, etc. in the states and in Europe, but to no affect, and it died rather quickly. Oh, and of course even the the NEW York Times spun their lies to justify our war with Iraq pushing the lie they had weapons of mass destruction. That being said the UN, South Africa as well as some European countries have defined what Israel is doing as a genocide. I think they may not be able to stop it but Israel in my opinion is and will no longer be held in any esteem, and hopefully will loose it's grip on American politics, because without US she is really not much. AIPAC has got to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@fran: why do most israelis condone the genocide? if i am not mistaken they have been thoroughly brainwashed into considering palestinians their eternal enemies. if you want to take people's land, you can't afford to see the people you want to steal from as humans. if you did, they'd be your equals. you do not steal from your equals. you steal from sub-humans, with a clear CON_science.
i am totally ashamed to see my EU country - which started and lost two world wars - support the settler colonists' genocide. to my utter dismay, my country's defense department even honored israel by buying its arrow3 air defense system for abt. 3.5 bn euros bc we are supposed to fight putin who will soon show up at our doorstep [we've been told to fear russians at our doorsteps for the past sixty years.]
Well Julia, when I was a kid I use to watch those old cowboy and Indian movies on TV, and I never understood why the cowboys were good and the Indians bad, since it was Indian land the cowboys were stealing, No one ever gave me a good answer to that when I asked how it all got turned around. One day I realized my country just lies to me, and it was the cowboys that were bad. After that I never saluted the flag and said with liberty and justice for all. In the 15th century there was a papal bull that claimed if your exploring the world and come across a bunch of non-Christians, well their land is your land. Israeli young, both men and women, are called into the military to protect Israel from it's enemies, for the most part, Palestinians, which seem to be a perpetual threat. They have also used their victimization during WWII, to rationalize their victimization of others. I have had a couple of arguments with those that defend Israel's genocide, and they always mention those killed by Hamas on Oct 7, and use it to justify the slaughter of Palestinians and see it as no more then pay back. I know people like that. Also, remember Gallant calling them animals, so if you dehumanize them it's easier to kill them. I will never forget the video on Aljazeera where a mother is rocking and singing to her dead baby as if she could comfort it in death, really, really sad, or the 10 year old girl whose whole family was killed. She lost one of her legs, but she said she wanted to grow up and help people, but they didn't give her that chance when they attacked the hospital, and her head blew off. You probably know that AIPAC has a lot of control over the US and I pray it becomes a thing of the past. Disgusting that Miriam Adelson can give Trump a hundred million to oust Palestinians from their land, and make it a part of Israel. Who would want a cardiologist with no heart to check up on yours.
@fran: hollywood played a huge role in 'selling' us the US genocide of the first nations as a glorious victory of civilized whites over non-white barbarians. this mindset has not been eradicated. racism, insatiable greed, white arrogance and indifference to the plight of others prevail ...
Do you think that German politics might express a more nuanced position about Israel? I am thinking that affirming and supporting Israel 's right to self-defense, but coupling that with the ability to offer constructive criticism of Netanyahu's vengeful, destructive war on Palestinians?
The problem with the way self defense is being used by Israel is that it is utterly one sided and has never included a right to a representative government or self defense for the original Palestinian population. The right of self defense has no meaning unless it is universal. Who is the consistent aggressor with all the territorial gains? And who is occupied and defending their very existence?
When Israelis initiated the Nakba attack on Palestinians in 1948, Palestinians were the majority population. Since then there have been many displacements and much aggressive warfare against Palestinians. 100s of thousands of Palestinians have fled and Up until the Hamas attack the ratio of Palestinians killed to Israelis killed was about 10 to 1. Now , according to the latest Harvard study, the ratio is closer to 400 to 1. The evidence for self defense has always been profoundly dishonest, and now it is obvious that the Zionist project is one of absolute ethnic cleansing.
our new chancellor recently said israel was "doing the dirty work for us all in iran". what an outrageous claim! he did express doubts re. the justification of israel's recent bombardments of palestinians - but that was it. neither he nor other members of the ruling parties tell israel to STOP mass murdering people who are NOT AT ALL to blame for the shoa.
buying the israeli arrow 3 missile defense system for the german military ... shows much support for israel.
as to its right to self-defense: according to int'l law, occupiers have the right to defend themselves only within their national territory! israel has continuously expanded its territory, at the expense of palestinians, unhindered and for many decades. int'l law is being disregarded continuously. [only if w. putin violates it our f.lawmakers remind us of its existence.]
germans call themselves israel's friends. yet they have never prevented israel from turning into an apartheid state crueler than south africa ever was - as archbishop desmond tutu discovered.
re. constructive criticism: germany has reached the stage where people who criticize israeli politics are called antisemites. what a sorry development!
A colonial prejudicial mindset played a big role when it came to handing Palestine over to Zionist Jews. Israeli's were never keen on a two state solution and Netanyahu certainly has made that clear through his almost 20 years in office. Israel and it's people are indoctrinated with that hate. In 1947 you had the NAKBA and 700 thousand Palestinians were ousted from their homeland and some 70 thousand were killed. Prejudice has played a huge role in the treatment of these people. Don't forget Gallant wasn't very gallant when he called them a bunch of animals, but that is how they are seen.
Thank you both for your efforts to not only do the right thing, but to maybe open some eyes. I wish my r/l friends relied on you and other independent journalists for information instead of the NYT and the WaPo because my friends are clueless. “Yep, what Israel is doing is bad, but Trump…”, is a typical reply when I rage about the starvation and endless murders of Palestinians. I don’t understand why everyone isn’t as enraged as I am.
One of the main, perhaps only, Trump’s objectives is creation of ever-Greater Israel. He never hid that….
The only filter for Trump's administration members was and is —a total dedication to Zionism and Great Israel, therefore to the US genocide of Palestinians. Hence the unconstitutional and unprecedented “antisemitism” terror and censorship in the US.
Always remember that when Benjamin Netanyahu Mileikowsky visits US he often stays at the estate of Trump’s daughter, Ivanka (Trump) Kushner. And that Trump is demanding that all corruption charges against war criminal Mileikowsky-Netanyahu be dropped.
Also remember, Israel sterilized Ethiopian Jewish immigrant women… - for purity of Ashkenazi blood == racism
The war has divided the people in those that have empathy and those do not, never a filter so clearly been applied to the human race. We seem to be more divided than ever , but I have found this genocide to have united me with others that have been traumatized , horrified at the slaughter and dehumanization of an innocent people.
I am relieved to know if people like Chris that are veterans when it comes to telling the truth and advocating for peace , But also of new voices like Cassian Noor , who has written the book AEON, a moral reckoning, using fiction . If you uh want to know of his debut work , please do download here : https://amzn.eu/d/6JcEaAo
Sanction regimes are already in place, countries must put them to work on criminally liable Israel and the US under the Rome Statutes and create economies, like Iran and Russia which have been able build economies outside the sanctioning countries, that are independent, armed like the axis of resistance, and organized against the global financial, legal, and corporate system. The loss of resources should make dehumanization, legal violations, and genocide a permanent liability.

Interesting that I never saw it that way, but as someone intruding and taking what is not their's to take.
Are you speaking if Germany?
i am, indeed.
Do you think that German politics might express a more nuanced position about Israel? I am thinking that affirming and supporting Israel 's right to self-defense, but coupling that with the ability to offer constructive criticism of Netanyahu's vengeful, destructive war on Palestinians?
