As difficult as it is to hear Thiago Avila tell what he experienced at the hands of the Zionist monsters, it's beyond my moral comprehension that Israel is still at it, while the world looks away and allows it to continue. Thank you to all those who are working to stop the genocide.

This amazing man's story should galvanize all of us. A genocidal state becomes more brutal the longer it is allowed to do what it is doing.........and yes, it threatens all of us. This is exactly what can be done to any of us........while the powerful in the world look away, send their dogs to bite our bodies, and call resistance terrorism.

It's frightening.....but we have to defeat it, not imagine we can erase it from our minds and our consciences.

Israeli's see themselves as perpetual victims, strongly cultivated by the US and the western world over decades, and have always used their victimhood status to rationalize and justify their many atrocities. I doubt they feel any guilt in inflicting abuse on Thiago whom they perceive as pushing a "lying" agenda that is out to destroy them. I think the society itself cultivates this mindset which is something Netanyahu does repeatedly, even lying about a whole lot of dead babies and women raped on Oct 7, 2023. In doing so they cultivate a sense of paranoia which allows them to push for war in Iran with the lies it's going to nuke them one day.

A more virulent form of the great replacement theory bullshit animating a lot of parties on the right throughout the entire west today......any loss in absolute white privilege is now constructed as racism against whites.........there seems to be no limit to the damage we're willing to do to our brains/hearts/spirits in order to stay on top......

I read Max Blumenthal’s book Goliath. I think what is happening in Israel — their reasoning and righteousness—is a reflection of the same that transpired and continues here—the territory that eventually became the U.S. The displacement of native people, the genocides of native people, the slavery of African people, the lynchings, Jim Crow, now mass incarceration and militarization of our whole society. The brutalizing and killing of people protesting ICE and the for profit detention centers. It is like a mirror. The U.S. is Israel. Israel is the U.S. We in the U.S. were starting to come around here with the Voting Rights and Civil Rights in the 60’s. In spite of the backlash to those efforts, we were making progress but that is all torn to pieces here. Cruelty is ascendant and the U.S. is back to the business of imperialism and we continue to finance what is happening in Israel.

The longer injustice gets away with what it does, the harder it is to turn it around....how many young people want to face the possibility their beloved parents are monsters???

Even if the alternative means retarding yourself.....being determined to believe in justifications for genocide that only staying ignorant can maintain. Until everything we do and say has the hollow ring of a kind of moral vacuity....

I'm almost as appalled by what must be happening in the mind's of Israeli's as I am outraged by the massacres in Gaza.....and now Lebanon.

Excellent comment IMO.

Thiago Avila - what a brave man!

He tells it like it is. Palestine: a LAB coming to a neighborhood near us all ... eventually.

Cruel is too kind a word for the Zionists monsters.

Thank you for this Chris. Hard to hear but also so important. Thiago puts humanity up front and show us what it means to live in society, or at least what we should aspire and fight for.

“The destiny of Palestinians is the destiny of all humanity” is the most perfect statement I have heard and should be in every sign and banners until Palestine is Free

I wish he had talked about the Brazilian Federal Police detaining him as he arrived in Brazil, after being kidnapped and tortured. Lula goes on and on about all the things he has done and can do if re-elected and, and the dangers of another Trump-like president in Brazil, but he has someone, maybe his chief of staff, who is a zionist and she invites zionists to the Presidential Palace for zionist events and he is silent about this

But maybe there is a lawsuit and Thiago prefers not to speak about it. More likely, he doesn't want the attention on him. Either way, I am curious and mad

On the matter of Israel.                                                                                                                                                                                                    The Jews suffered a massive GENOCIDE at the hands of the GESTAPO who held their activities to be justified. In addition the Jews suffered from anti-semetic movements all round the world.  All of which they held to be hugely UNJUST & WE AGREED.  This has been the basis for our support for Israel over the last few decades.

Today Israel is committing a GENOCIDE against its neighbors & one that they hold to be justified; while we STRONGLY DISAGREE.

While we dismiss Israel's claims it is only acting in SELF DEFENSE.  Yet the reason that Israel is fighting with such INTENSITY today; is due to the Jews being persecuted for most of history with no safe haven available to them.  Our only problem is where can 6-7 million Jews go if they get kicked out of the area called Israel?     As these are people who have suffered from persecution for much of history; this question has no easy answer,

Today Trump insists that Iran forfeiting its enriched Uranium is a precondition for peace.  Yet this was not a major stipulation before his war began; so WHAT CHANGED?  Before there was a remote POSSIBILITY that if Iran had nukes it would use them to attack America; given the way Trump has treated Iran this possibility has increased to near CERTAINTY.  Now Trump has to restrict Iran's ability to obtain nukes in order to FIX HIS OWN STUFF-UPS.

As for America; Trump supported Israel to the extent of threatening to destroy an ancient civilization if Iran did not submit to his will.  As a result America may have to come to Israel's aid again & again & AGAIN; unless it wants to become complicit in destroying an ancient people called the Jews.

America is a great power in a rotten world.  As such it cannot avoid being complicit in some monstrous act or other,   Trump must soon learn that any peace treaty that is based on extortion; threats & blackmail has proven to be VERY TEMPORARY.  So much for a man who holds himself to be the MASTER of the deal.

In sum; this matter is not as simple as human rights activists insist; in REALITY IT IS A COMPLEX SHITTY MESS.

In the above statement you repeatedly justify their behavior by referencing their history of abuse, and poor them that never had a safe haven. You even claim there is no where for them to go now, like there are no Jews in any country world wide which is utter nonsense. Lets also not forget the land of Palestine was not a land without a people, but a land occupied by Palestinians who constituted the majority with a higher Christian population then those of Jews. I could go on and on, but I doubt this will inform your perspective on things, since you are unaware of your own bias and truly believe you are being objective.

ken maynard's avatar

Hello Fran; I agree that after their own experience the Jews should have aimed for a happier local solution from the OUTSET. Yet they did not & the wider world is complicit as we did not require them to.

Yes; there are Jews in many other regions of the world where they are already facing the discrimination that I was speaking off. What is more authorities have but limited ability to contain this abuse.

Finally; I conclude in the same place I did in my earlier comment. ~That this matter is not as simple as human rights activists insist; but A COMPLEX SHITTY MESS~

I was taught since childhood how we should condemn the Jewish Holocaust; that it should never happen again. Well, it IS happening again and Israel / IDF, the victims we were taught to feel sorry for are the perpetrators this time. They've lost my condolences and pity with their murderous ways. Fuck Israel - they are a menace - this has to stop !

Adriana's avatar

You are whitewashing genocide. The reason they do this is because they are cruel, white supremacists - Jews are European - and try to justify that with a tale fro a book written by man that some entity they call god give them the land and the rights to get that land by all means necessary. Even if you believe the bible, Ishmael was the first son of Abraham so Isaac should share the land not control it. But as a racist story, Ishmael was the son of a slave, so no rights for him. It is all a tale

Either way, the 97% of Jews inside "Israel" are very clear when they say "All Arabs should die". They have no issue with the genocide. And like one of the 3% on non-zionist Jew inside "Israel" said on Democracy Now, the only thing "Israel" knows is destruction and they are totally fine with a forever war.

@ken

i’ll try to be relatively brief, despite the subject’s vastness.

after what they’d been through in my country … the jews who went to settle in israel could have decided to COLLABORATE w palestinians — NONE OF WHOM had or has committed a holocaust against them. right? together, they could have created a better world, starting in palestine, right?

instead, the zionists set out to ANNIHILATE palestinians FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. illegal settlements, apartheid, humiliation, day in, day out, open air concentration camps, rationed water, electricity, food, deadly bombing campaigns, decades before oct 7, 2023, and WITH IMPUNITY. UNITL THIS VERY DAY. aiming for a greater israel, in eternal self-defense. seriously?

they are beginning to succeed in normalizing the barbarism their ancestors experienced and reserve the right to inflict it on others, not just palestinians. flotilla activists returning, via bilbao, spain, after having been tortured by israeli forces, were beaten up at bilbao airport by IDF-trained bilbao police! and israel has been selling arms in RECORD amount$ last year to its arab neighbors and other 'allies'. arms — “battle-tested!“ for decades on palestinians, for the world to see their ‘effectiveness and efficiency’ — to be used against who next?

the “promised land!“ was promised several times btw, to arabs, to jews, then finally allocated to israel — as the west’s “battleship in the middle east!“, its prolonged arm, its foot in west asia’s door to all the oil reserves we need to deplete so insatiably. all this has little to do w israel proper, everything to do w US, i.e. western hegemony.

ben gurion was well aware: “we have come and we have stolen their country. why would they accept that?“

you might want to refer to works by amira hass, norman finkelstein, rashid khalidi, gideon levy, anthony loewenstein, ilan pappe, among others.

jeffrey sachs’ wonderfully insightful book club has an episode w yakov rabkin on his book: israel in palestine - jewish rejection of zionism.
