An informative interview. I didn’t know about the role of strikes in bringing down Batista and the Shah in Cuba and Iran, respectively. Thank you, Chris, for discussing the role of the Democratic Party in the rise of Trump and hopefully disabusing viewers of any belief that the Democrats will save us. Nonetheless, I am encouraged by the early successes of some new faces, like Mamdani, challenging the old guard. When even Ro Khanna says that support of an embargo of arms to Israel is a non-starter for any Democrat seeking the presidential nomination in 2028, assuming there’s anything left to destroy of Palestine by that point, it’s clear that neither the donors nor the DNC will allow the nomination of anyone who has seriously opposed the genocide. At least the shaming of these people has begun and it should continue. It seems to have quite taken them by surprise.
I do believe that Fidel and his "barbudos" were essential for the independence of Cuba, though of course, less than 100 rebels could have not achieved it had no been because the majority of the population was tired of the capitalist regime of Batista and USA. Same happened in Russia and in China that despite the support of the west including us for their despots, their revolutions succeed. All of them satisfied the desires and illusions of the the majority of the people. My opinion.
Another way to look at Cuba's poverty is that Castro's experiment worked pretty good because it has survived all the bullying of America for decades. I wonder what other country could have survived such a treatment including us. Sir!

Kevin, what is the title of the documentary? There are many about Fidel. I have a copy of the documentary by PBS American Experience "Fidel Castro" produced in 2005 which is a respected program. I saw in this documentary a quite different image of Fidel than the one you arrived at. I do remember my great surprise when I knew that Fidel had appropriated his father's plantation and gave it to the revolution, or that before the revolution he was admired by the poor because he dedicated his life as an attorney of the law to defend their cause. This doesn't sound as a manipulator. Of course everybody has different points of view like the one that Alina Fernandez had of his father, but I believe that the fact that Cuba has managed to keep its independence despite the boy cuts, embargos, attempts to assassinate its leaders and even the biological warfare we have imposed on them tells me that they took the correct direction. If he couldn't fulfil all the promises of the revolution it is because we have done every we can to impede progress to those courageous people. We love to denigrate them. Recently Trump in his attempt to banish Tylenol in America said that Cuba is too poor and can't produce this drug and therefore they have no autism which is contrary to reality.
