From the madness of King George to the madness of King Donald: American history in a nutshell?

American Democracy was NATIONALIZED to begin with

ALL UP to the COngress

THE PEOPLE NEVER got to vote on the issues

Just WHO and seldom WHAT

Corruptible as Trump's proposal to NATIONALIZE is

Maybe where he got the concept ?

This statement by Noam Chomsky's wife posted by Aaron Mate is worth reading. It makes complete sense. Epstein was a brilliant con artist of the highest order, could easily read people, and was unhindered by conscience or heart. An even somewhat trusting academic would be easy game. And that he fooled even Chomsky's wife says a lot about the earnest "genuineness" of his dark skills when he turned them on, as women are often able to more easily see through the charm.

The apology by Chomsky's wife rings very hollow to me.

First off: Why go to length and apologize for what she claims was no wrong doing? It would be perfectly acceptable (and more rational) to simply explain it--without an attached apology. Her feigned apology wreaks of guilt to me.

Second, ostensibly she is apologizing for not investigating Epstein's nature and history more thoroughly. That's horse hockey. How deep must one be obligated to investigate another in order to pursue joint interest and never learn of "hidden" agendas? Some things simply aren't knowable without actually breaking the law to find out. Two wrongs don't make a right. That said, there seems to be a conflict of interest that the Chomskys are glossing over in the 'details' of their relationship with Epstein. It appears from Valeria's own comments that Noam was under some serious financial stress...and gained Epsteins personal help in alleviating it. What were the details of how that financial stress (how much $ are we talking here) was alleviated? And how? Someone can easily be conned into selling their soul to the devil when big financial stress is concerned. I can see one becoming easily blind to a Faustian bargain that would otherwise raise an eyebrow to the average Joe. That apparently never happened. Why not? Also, the details are missing from Valeris's accounts of what happened "after the November 2018 report by Miami Herald" when everyone and their brother knew of Epstein's exploits. She goes on to account for gifts and overtures by Epstein AFTER this date, Still no red flags? The details are missing wither here story which makes it hard to decipher what actually happened. Seems like that is on purpose...and, thus, seems like bullshit to me.

Finally, Chomsky lost all credibility with me after railing like a madman about folks not bending to the government's pandemic demand to take an experimental vaccine in order to protect "others" from Covid 19 virus and it various (and ongoing) mutations. In my opinion, this is a totally irrational position which I have opined in great detail on this forum (it's not my intention to cover the same ground here). Suffice it to say that I believe it was Chomsky's published position that folks who refused to be vaccinated with these experimental drugs should, basically be ostracized from society and should not be feed or otherwise cared for should they fall sick. As far as I am concerned, that's the position of a screwball. He may have digressed to such a state...or just hide it well for his entire life. But it does strike me as ironic that such modus operandi easily gets applied to others by Chomsky's wife-- but gets dismissed entirely when it comes to her and her husband's incapacity for determining right from wrong. They chalk this failing up to simple naivete. For Christ's sake, her husband is a known specialist in social criticism and a linguistics expert! All I see in this weak mi culpa (what could we do?--Epstein hide it so well!) is more bullshit.

Looks like the billionaire retail investor Leslie Wexler is now using the same excuse as Chomsky--naivete--after disclosure of being involved with a convicted sex offender. Allegedly some of the richest and smartest guys in the room--all feigning naivete. Right. I thought that tired excuse was all but worn out with Jeffery Skilling and Kenneth Lay.

Wexler is also saying he has "nothing to hide" and has "done nothing wrong". Who said he did? Why is he jumping to (and disclaiming) such a conclusion right out of the gate-- and at his own volition? I suppose he was forced to visit Epstein's private island in order to get those legitimate business deals done; Fed Ex Office was just not a viable meeting place-- or as "sexy" of an alternative.

I agree w you "WWII" on all points. I do not believe Valeria/Noam were innocent and naive. I believe they received money in exchange for services: "ignoring" the hideous traffic they witnessed, telling Epstein useful tricks to stay out of trouble. While also perfectly aware E had been incarcerated for sex trafficking. How come? NC retired from MIT in 2002, so he must have received a decent income from it, plus from his activities until his recent stroke. Decent, even if he deserved more, as he was too often shunned by universities resisting challenging truths. And still.. one financial arrangement too many. While working on a master in a German university in the early 1970s, I assisted the Dean of Linguistics i.e. by summing-up Chomsky's English books in German (note: am neither German nor usa-ian). When I moved to the DividedStatesOfAmerica, I discovered the Grammarian had turned into Activist. Acted on his words, then.

As to Aaron Maté, whom I had experienced as excellent journalist, crystal clear and courageous : again, I am shocked he sided with that fake letter, confusing what NC fought for, with NC dubious financial arrangement. Could this be about Jewish solidarity at all costs?

I'm not sure that has anything to do with it. But, for sure, I can say that I used to have a lot of respect for Chomsky...and, later on, Aaron Mate. As far as I'm concerned Chomsky's reputation was badly tarnished over his Plandamic ravings...and now both of their reputations are in the toilet over being jointly associated with publicizing Chomsky's fake Epstein mea culpa.

It takes years-- if not decades-- to build and earn a good reputation. As in these cases, stupidity can put an end to that virtually overnight.

Cheers!

Concise, prescriptive, alarming assessment of where we have come as a nation,

mid-slide into a gutter of our own design. Way to go, Dem-Rep collaborators!

My advice: Don’t spend all your blood-money profit at the same private island.

I just read that 47 is pushing to have Penn Station renamed in exchange for tunnel funding. Where are the arrest warrants for underlings for misprision of felony and treason? RI, VA, IL, VT, CA, and DE, we’re looking at you. When I was a middle school guidance counselor, we addressed bullying by going after the low hanging fruit. It didn’t take long for the house of cards to collapse (apologies for the mixed metaphors but it’s early). The bottom line is that we’ve all heard that blue leadership is working behind the scenes but, imho, it’s time to broadcast their intentions and act upon them, while we still can. https://www.cnn.com/2026/02/05/politics/schumer-trump-ny-funding-rename

There is no blue party working behind the scenes to stand up to Orange crush. The dismal blue pretend party is doing nothing to fight the fascist takeover.

ISO--- Appreciate your comment and one off the more cogent comments I've read on this forum in quite a while.

The blue coats are totally ignoring blatant violation to the emoluments clause to the U.S. Constitution because they think it's okay to sit on their hands and do nothing in that vein. I'd be surprised if they still have the initiative to organize lunch amongst themselves. The only thing they seem real capable of doing is processing super pac money through their accounts. The problem is too many are soiled in shit from lying in the same pigsty that they can't reasonably say to another "YOU STINK!". The entire Uniparty needs to be impeached immediately--question really is: IF they still can.

Hedges, you still don’t realize that you have been tricked by the Fascist Elites not mearly by smearing Chomsky but , in doing so , also discrediting his seminal anti- imperial work .

Chomsky is the arch intellectual enemy of Israel and of the American empire. They are sitting back and laughing while you cancel Chomsky and distract from the actual criminals and the Epstein files.

Sorry man, you’re wrong. Chomsky was not “seduced” - he was tricked. Just like you are being right now in smearing Chomsky and obliterating his work .

Epstein was not a seducer . Epstein was a groomer. Seduces charm.. Groomers deceive.

You presume to “ know” Chomsky - and yet you completely contradict yourself in your lame psychoanalysis or him.

You laud Chomsky as "arguably" our "greatest and most principled intellectual" while in the same breath level against Chomsky the baseless accusation that "he knew about Epstein's abuse of children" and that he "did not care".

Mr. Hedges, what you say here simply does not hold water AND it is harmful to everyone.
